dreamland day two

40 players remaining.

There are no clocks in your dorm room to help you mark the passing of time, but at a certain point, in the early hours of the morning, a cheerful chime tune plays over the loudspeaker. Whether you're awake or asleep, the door to your dorm room is now unlocked. You'll have about a forty five minutes, in which you can get ready or grab some breakfast, before the door that allows you into the park unlocks. By this time, you may or may not have noticed that one of your number is missing.

The chimes play again, to announce that the park is open, and the rides and music begin to come back to life as a voice plays over the loudspeaker.

"Rise and shine! Let's have a lot of fun today, or at least all of you who are left!"

You will have until 4 PM to explore the park and talk amongst yourselves. Somewhere in the park, you'll find the body of Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu.

[Shit. Levi has seen enough people grieving over corpses for several lifetimes, but the sight never fails to send a queasy chill through his entire body. He keeps a respectful distance, allowing the people who know her and the victim to have their time. Only after most of them clear out does he quietly approach.]

I didn't do enough.

If you're going to bury him, there are people who can help.

[She's mostly quieted down by the time Levi approaches; her breaths are a little more even, and even her shakes have somewhat subsided. Every few seconds, she still leans over his body, as if she might check for a heartbeat, or she'll reach up with her free hand to clutch at her own chest, a few more tears escaping from her eyes.

She's still holding one of Kuzuryuu's hands.

But she looks up at the sound of Levi's voice, her teeth gritted. And it's clear that it's not just sadness in her eyes. It's starting to be replaced by a cold anger.]

We cannot... we cannot bury him yet.

[Her grip only tightens on his hand as she forces herself to look back down at the body.]

Not until we understand the wounds. He would not have run away.

I believe you.

Whoever killed him wouldn't have known. There's a chance they wanted to question him, or torture him, before the final blow. But it doesn't look clean at all, so he probably didn't budge an inch, and it pissed one of them off.

[Just a theory, but it's about the best thing he can offer her.]

Can you think of any reason why he'd be a target?
