[He doesn't really find her plan irritating or ridiculous, but he is a little worried about her safety, taking all of that onto herself. So he nods in agreement here.]

I think that there are ways to organize ourselves without putting the burden so squarely on any one person's shoulders...

If we must, we need a group more than a single person. The problem is keeping the VIPs out.

It's impossible to be sure. [He lets out a small, but irritated sigh as he holds his right hand.] If I had my dowsing chain with me, this wouldn't be an issue.

I think that they took away most of the things that belong to people... [He ran into someone earlier who couldn't use their magic, so he's assuming dowsing is along those lines, even though he doesn't actually know what it is.]

Even then, I think... we should still be fine. As long as everyone agrees not to kill, which shouldn't be too hard.

[It'd be nice if things were that easy, wouldn't it?]

People could be lying. You can't always take someone's word. From the sounds of it, they already have VIPs lined up.

That might be the case, but... Everyone seemed so surprised, and I don't think anyone was lying. That means that the people who brought us here would also have to convince them to kill. I don't think that's going to be easy.

[He wants to say that it would be impossible, but not even Oz the king of optimism is that optimistic.]

Most people would be surprised, but the fact is we don't know anyone here well enough to truly say "they could never be convinced to kill". For now, no one is beyond the possibility.

Not me, and not you. That said, we still have to find a way to work together without letting paranoia destroy us.

...Right. Right... "A happy medium", right? [He thinks he's heard the term somewhere before.] Anyway, I do agree that we should probably spread leadership out among all of us.

[chainjailer]

[Kurapika nods, maybe softening his tone just a bit since he's kind of crushing this guy's hope over here. But it's what has to be done--he doesn't want to see anybody die here.]

If we can all work together as a team, I think that would be best. After all, right now we vastly outnumber the VIPs, even if we count "buddies" as only one unit.

A natural rise to leadership might be better than a vote right now. Or maybe we can work in shifts, so to speak.

[Kurapika the Hope Crusher™. But Oz seems to realize that he's trying to be a little reassuring and he smiles accordingly, small and uncertain as it is.]

I think that both of those might work well. As long as it doesn't put any one person in too much danger...

Right, the key here is to not let any one person be more vulnerable than the others. It'll make choosing more difficult, and it might give us a chance to stop anything before it's too late.

[Keeping it, on the other hand... Sheba misses being able to read minds. That sure would make things easier.] What might be more difficult for everyone would be choosing to trust in everyone else when they say, "I won't kill."

I mean it when I say that, but that doesn't mean I can make any of you trust me.

If you say that you won't kill anyone, then I believe you. [Oz "please murder my dumb ass right now" Vessalius.]

If you say that, then I would definitely believe you, too. [Because IBUKI IS A VICTIM HERE CLEARLY, who would put someone so nice through a murder game twice...]

[But there is a part of her that can't. She's seen firsthand how someone's words, actions, and thoughts can all say different things.]

We just need to be smart about this. They can't keep us here forever, so as long as we're all careful and don't do anything that could put us in danger, what's the worst that could happen even if someone does try to kill? If we never give them the chance to do it, they won't succeed, right?

Right! [GOOD GOING SHEBA that's better than a lot of the platitudes that Oz has been telling himself to make himself feel a little more assured.]

If we're careful and watch out for each other, I don't think that anyone should end up hurt. I really don't think that anyone would try to hurt someone else, either, but...

Dowsing?

[curiosity piqued. Yuya sometimes uses his pendulum necklace (which he still has) for that kinda thing, but.... It's really not a power, so it's about as useful as horoscopes.

Still. He believes in it as a sort of comfort.]

Do you really think something like that would help in this?

If I had my dowsing chain with me, I'd be able to find out who was lying about their status as a guest or VIP, or their intentions to kill.

[He certainly sounds serious, not at all like it's some sort of horoscope.]

Huh. I didn't know you could divine that kind of thing with it! I have a crystal pendulum, do you think that'd work?

No... I used Nen to make my dowsing chain work. Without that, I can't use any my special abilities.

[So he'll just have to glare at people and judge them the old fashioned way.]

[though it is disappointing that it won't work. He'll just stick to using his pendulum to find things. Which may or may not work.]

It's... [A long story? Too much for the mun to bother explaining?] Not important right now. I can't use it anyway. All you need to know is it's the main vehicle of one's power.

People who can't use Nen don't have a chance against ones who do.
