dreamland day two

40 players remaining.

There are no clocks in your dorm room to help you mark the passing of time, but at a certain point, in the early hours of the morning, a cheerful chime tune plays over the loudspeaker. Whether you're awake or asleep, the door to your dorm room is now unlocked. You'll have about a forty five minutes, in which you can get ready or grab some breakfast, before the door that allows you into the park unlocks. By this time, you may or may not have noticed that one of your number is missing.

The chimes play again, to announce that the park is open, and the rides and music begin to come back to life as a voice plays over the loudspeaker.

"Rise and shine! Let's have a lot of fun today, or at least all of you who are left!"

You will have until 4 PM to explore the park and talk amongst yourselves. Somewhere in the park, you'll find the body of Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu.

We'll be sure to ask you from now on.

[Because "WE WEREN'T IN DANGER" doesn't really work in a situation like this where they've just admitted to basically almost self-destructing because they put too many teabags into a nearly dry kettle and thought it would be fine.]

But we didn't... It's definitely a lot more work than it looks! [He'll have to go home and give Gil a cookie or something.]

It doesn't take that much time if you know how to do it right, boys... [UNLIKE YOU.]

So don't worry about it anymore, okay?

[That was way too emotionally direct. Frowning down at her empty water bottles.]

I'm thirsty 'cause it's so hot in here but this is the last time to actually heat up something else... Be right back. I'm gonna go throw these bottles out and get some actual ones for drinking. Do either of you want water too?

[ His face is still red, but he reaches up to massage his brow as if he were an old man, honestly. ]

...Yes, please.

[ Ciel sounds so utterly defeated, however. This is a great blow to his delicate, thirteen year old pride!! ]

[THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING RIGHT.

But Oz is appreciative of her emotional directness and her offer for water bottles alike, and he'll echo Ciel but in a less grouchy old man way.]

Please! And thank you. And I'm sorry for the trouble...

You're welcome. [So there Mahiru goes. And soon there's Mahiru coming back. She hands a bottle to each boy with just one word each:] Here. Here.

[Her eyes fall shut as she drinks her own water bottle. She's so dehydrated and exhausted from all the screaming and crying and fires today. She wants to make herself hot cocoa and watch Netflix. There's a sheen of both light sweat and water bottle condensation on her body now.]

[ Ciel will drink his water in shame, and he won't even sass back, because in his heart, he knows this was his fault. Even though he totally blamed Oz to start. These things happen. ]

I'm... sorry. [ But that was the most reluctant sorry you've probably ever heard ]

[aw... Ciel...... what a nerd. Oz will take his bottle with a quiet "thank you", too, but doesn't open it yet.]

We'll just take care next time. ...And ask you for help, Miss Mahiru!

[JUST IN CASE.]
