dreamland day two

40 players remaining.

There are no clocks in your dorm room to help you mark the passing of time, but at a certain point, in the early hours of the morning, a cheerful chime tune plays over the loudspeaker. Whether you're awake or asleep, the door to your dorm room is now unlocked. You'll have about a forty five minutes, in which you can get ready or grab some breakfast, before the door that allows you into the park unlocks. By this time, you may or may not have noticed that one of your number is missing.

The chimes play again, to announce that the park is open, and the rides and music begin to come back to life as a voice plays over the loudspeaker.

"Rise and shine! Let's have a lot of fun today, or at least all of you who are left!"

You will have until 4 PM to explore the park and talk amongst yourselves. Somewhere in the park, you'll find the body of Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu.

We'll see. If he's identified a safe person, it certainly wouldn't be safe to reveal it, for instance.

What theories would these be?

I was worried that he might be...bluffing. That he might not be the detective. For some strange reason, he would pretend to be the role...perhaps, I thought, perhaps he was VIP? He could easily sabotage the note system, name another person, make us execute them, under the VIP'S plan to eliminate us...other theories I had, yes, suggested he might be protecting the true detective?

Either way, this does seem to suggest he may be the detective...I'll have to see what he says today. If there is a murder, and we vote Legion...and if Legion is truly what Levi says he is, we need to protect Levi. We need to keep him safe.

If he was VIP and wanted to accuse Legion, we'd find out immediately if we executed Legion and confirmed his guilty or innocent status. And sabotaging the note system would be contingent upon knowing the secret symbol, right?

It appears the VIP haven't chosen to attack him today, at the very least.

Is that so? He is alive...? Ah, but perhaps his declaration the other day protected him...after all, he put himself in immediate risk by coming out and stating it.

The only we can prove what he is...is, well, executing Legion. Which seems to be a very extreme method of proof, but...what else can we do? We have his word, nothing more...

I checked the bulletin--a Mr. Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu is today's unfortunate victim.

It's sad, but that's the only method of confirmation we have. The VIP are clearly playing the game. If the rest of us don't, we'll lose.

[Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu? He doesn't know the name that well...ah, was it that young man with the eyepatch? Royce barely talked to him, but still, the fact that there was a murder is not at all good news. They would have to vote who to execute today, and Legion seems the likely option.]

...That's upsetting. [He sighs.] Yes, we need to act, and...quickly. Before further murders can occur. We need to stop it all. End this...pathetic game...

... We really do. This is a once-in-a-lifetime story, but I would rather not do another like it ever again.

[There's a pause, and he lets out a huff, shaking his head.]

You remind me of a reporter from back home. She...she, too, had something like a "once-in-a-lifetime" story.

...I may not be a reporter myself, but...I can respect those who have the profession. It is a more risky job than one might think.

[ ... poor guy looks stressed. she pours another cup of coffee from a nearby pot--her own cup is pretty cold, but she looks slightly less tired than yesterday. ]

Like I said, I'm used to the risk.

If I could ask, what's your friend's story? [ but she doesn't take out her notebook just yet. ]

[Royce is less stressed and more "his mind is going a hundred miles per minute, trying to figure things out". But all of this, all of these snippets of information that lead into vague, shadowy alleyways, it makes him concerned. It feels like he's been locked in a closet with many others, and they are all trying to find their way out with a killer hidden in the darkness.]

Ah. [He blinks.] She actually wasn't...well, a friend. I mean, I did have a colleague who was a journalist, he was very good, very good at his job, but...I'm afraid I only knew the one I am, ah, referring to through her stories. She was a good news reporter, from what I read...

[He had to admire her dedication, even up to...even up to...]

[...He doesn't want to think about it.]

[ ... hidden killers is definitely pretty accurate. and she's getting a hint of an idea of what might've happened--interviewers have to be observant. ]

I see, you didn't know her in person. But there's definitely a lot one can learn from a reporter's writing style. [ for instance, that Aya has no shame and iffy quality control. but SHE TRIES. mostly. ]
eventhandler: (to force the hand of nature)

[personal profile] eventhandler 2014-09-26 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, there is. She was...very dedicated. Always was on the scene when...things occurred. Very timely updates, she always wanted to inform the people of what was going on...very respectable.

[He looks a little vacant. Just remembering Cloudbank and the people there...well, it was hard. Very hard, indeed.]

[personal profile] photoshot 2014-09-26 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
... That's what being a journalist is about.

What events was she reporting on? [ aand the notebook comes out again. she had to admit, Royce's world definitely sounded like an intriguing one. ]

[personal profile] eventhandler 2014-09-26 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, all sorts of things. What the Administrators decided, how the people voted, the events going around the city, you know...? Everything from celebrations to...disappearances.

[He drifts off, his deer-like gaze turned towards the ground.]

...All sorts of things.
photoshot: (patriotic teen fails spanish)

[personal profile] photoshot 2014-09-26 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Really. Were disappearances a regular occurrence in Cloudbank? [ wow, that doesn't sound alarming at all. ]
eventhandler: (to force the hand of nature)

[personal profile] eventhandler 2014-09-26 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Not...really. They happened, occasionally. We had investigators, forecasters, they looked into them. Sometimes, it just happened that the people in question went to the Country, that's all. Nothing to be...overly concerned about.
photoshot: (maybe let's get high instead)

[personal profile] photoshot 2014-09-26 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
It doesn't quite sound like you believe that yourself.

...

[He is silent for a while, tapping his long fingers against the sleeves of his coat.]

[Finally, he lets out a sigh, turning away from Aya to close the door of his room behind him. He places the newspaper in the crook of his armpit - he'll read it as he walks to wherever the scene of the crime is. No time to waste.]

I think it's time to investigate the...murder. And find Levi. [A slight nod of the head.] Good day, Aya. Thank you for...the newspaper.

[ there's an interesting story there, but it'd require more delicate questioning than her usual style. hmm. ]

You're welcome. Let's both continue to do our best and find out as much as we can.
eventhandler: (i failed to see the flaws)

[personal profile] eventhandler 2014-09-26 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed.

[And he's off. Time to get to the bottom of all of this.]
