day one - aftermath

dreamland day one

41 players remaining.

As the voting period comes to an end, a bell goes off from the ticket machine, and the metal bars blocking the tunnel at the end of the Hall of Mirrors lifts. A voice speaks over the loudspeaker:
"Attention, guests! Please make your way onto the ride! For your safety, keep your hands and arms inside and do not attempt to leave your seat!"

Through the tunnel, single cars on a track stop and wait for each remaining player to step on. Don't dawdle, or your bracelet will begin to beep a warning. Once in a car, the safety bar locks you tightly inside, unable to move.

The car trundles along a dark, twisting track, nearly veering into cartoonish obstacles, but veering away at the last moment. Music and cackling laughter echoes loudly through the ride as you drive faster and faster. Suddenly, your car seems about to veer off to the left, through a set of tall doors, before abruptly spinning off to the right.

With a powerful jerk, each car comes to the end of the ride. The safety bar lifts, and you can leave. It seems no one was executed tonight, but a list of votes has been pinned to the wall for your perusal.

You now have the rest of the evening to explore the park, before night comes again.

royalizing: (this is how it must be)

[ Okay that was terrible and she's feeling a little nauseous still, so she smooths down her hair in an attempt to soothe her queasiness too. ]

We'll need the detective and buddy cops to pass their results on to us first.

If they cannot trust the paper, [and lbr, Peko's not sure she trusts the paper completely, herself,] then perhaps there could be a place designated for information to be dropped anonymously?
royalizing: (hoh?)

[personal profile] royalizing 2014-09-25 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
It would have to be some place secure, so the VIPs won't be able to sabotage it. And out of sight, so someone providing information can't be spied on.

[ She's trying to think of anywhere that fits that description... ]

I don't think there's any place the detective can get that the VIPs can't, though. ...Actually, the VIPS can probably access more parts of the park than us.

[personal profile] belgian 2014-09-25 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
And as soon as we told everyone to leave information there, the VIPs would know where to look to sabotage it.

[personal profile] edealistical 2014-09-25 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Right.

I... I'm really loathe to say it, but I'm almost completely stumped about this. A way to convey information so that we know it comes from trustworthy people without giving away their identities...

[...]

Mrgrgr.... I don't think it's really possible!

The way it seems set up, we'll have to take a leap of faith at least the first time on someone's evidence. [Which she isn't happy about.]
eventhandler: (we looked so hard)

[personal profile] eventhandler 2014-09-25 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
The system, ah, seems rigged against us, really. No matter what method we take, there is always the risk, the great risk, for sabotage...
edealistical: (Thoughtful)

Honestly, I still kind of think Aya made up that note.

[grumbled as softly as she can.]

There's one thing we can do, actually - we should look for anyone who starts to act inconsistently. If I start talking tomorrow about how maybe it's OK to execute an innocent person, you can be sure that I've fallen to the black somehow.

Even the smallest things might be an indication.

But to notice something like that, we need to get to know each other better. Right now, we do not.

And the person who has been converted would have to understand that by saying so, by intentionally acting differently, they would be exposing themselves to be executed.

Right. I doubt any 'convert' would begin to behave wildly differently, but there may be subtle cues, still. Especially among people like you and your friends.

[A slight pause.]

Maybe... we should assign partners? Or maybe just loosely in some manner - get to know your dorm members closely, perhaps.

[personal profile] perfectstrike 2014-09-25 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
...People like me and my friends?

[Who. Who is Edea talking about here. Does she mean Peko's classmates. She's really going to have to clarify.]

What do you mean by that?

[The dorms is a good idea! Peko will come back to that.]
edealistical: (Thoughtful)

[personal profile] edealistical 2014-09-25 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
The 'Super High School'... Er.

[She'll have to consult her bracelet.]

You're all from the same place, aren't you? I heard, actually... that you had come from a game just like this.

[It's probably a touchy subject.]

Ah. My classmates from Hope's Peak Academy.

[She was just thrown by them being called her friends. What a loser.]

That is not incorrect, though the rules were... somewhat different. The "incentive" was clearly presented to our entire class, for anyone to kill for if they so chose. A successful culprit was permitted to leave the island, while the rest of us were executed in his or her place. If we deduced the true culprit, they alone would be executed. We were forced to investigate, gather evidence, and hold a trial.

...There are not enough bear motifs for this wretched place to be the same work as the one who captured us originally, however.

It's an unbea -- [...] awful situation. I heard from Ibuki - I can't imagine having to do this twice.

[She sounds genuinely sorry.]

...I know my words don't count for much, but... please believe me when I say that I will do everything in my power to save the people here from this nightmare.
perfectstrike: (still)

[personal profile] perfectstrike 2014-09-25 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
[I LAUGHED.]

I am certain Mioda gave an accurate description. [Maybe if it were parsed from in between the other things Ibuki tends to say. Or maybe Ibuki actually had some focus when talking about the island. Peko would be so proud.]

It is... fine. While I appreciate the sentiment, until we have a concerted plan of escape, that is all it is. Sentiment.

[Peko that's actually kind of rude.]
edealistical: (Thoughtful)

[personal profile] edealistical 2014-09-25 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
[Ouch.]

Sentiment it may be, but I intend to carry my words through.

[But she knows Peko has no reason to trust or believe her.]

...Why were you so surprised by my description of your class, by the way? Aren't you all friendly with each other?
perfectstrike: (ハーッ?)

[personal profile] perfectstrike 2014-09-25 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
We are friendly with each other, do not misunderstand.

[She twines a bit of hair around her finger and hums quietly.]

It is just strange to think of having friends.
edealistical: (Smile)

[personal profile] edealistical 2014-09-26 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
...I see.

[She thinks she can slightly understand the type of person Peko is. A talented swordswoman...]

Well... I can't speak for them, but I'm sure they'd be happy if you thought of them that way. When you're in such rough situations... it's nice to be able to think you have people to rely on.
perfectstrike: (ハーッ?)

[personal profile] perfectstrike 2014-09-26 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Is that so...?

[She looks surprised again before she nods.]

Yes, I see your point. Is there anyone like that for you, here?
edealistical: (Closed)

[personal profile] edealistical 2014-09-26 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
Well... No.

I am glad for that as well - my life is not so important as those I am honored to call my friends.

But I am sure there will be, in time, nonetheless.
perfectstrike: (pained)

[personal profile] perfectstrike 2014-09-26 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm. I can understand the feeling.

[A pause, then she adds,] But I do hope that is the case. If we can all find a way to trust each other and work together... that is the ideal situation.
edealistical: (Smile)

[personal profile] edealistical 2014-09-27 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
I agree. ...There may be seven of us working at odds with each other. But even so... I cannot doubt that we have the better odds if we can truly depend on one another.
