dreamland day one

41 players remaining.

As the voting period comes to an end, a bell goes off from the ticket machine, and the metal bars blocking the tunnel at the end of the Hall of Mirrors lifts. A voice speaks over the loudspeaker:
"Attention, guests! Please make your way onto the ride! For your safety, keep your hands and arms inside and do not attempt to leave your seat!"

Through the tunnel, single cars on a track stop and wait for each remaining player to step on. Don't dawdle, or your bracelet will begin to beep a warning. Once in a car, the safety bar locks you tightly inside, unable to move.

The car trundles along a dark, twisting track, nearly veering into cartoonish obstacles, but veering away at the last moment. Music and cackling laughter echoes loudly through the ride as you drive faster and faster. Suddenly, your car seems about to veer off to the left, through a set of tall doors, before abruptly spinning off to the right.

With a powerful jerk, each car comes to the end of the ride. The safety bar lifts, and you can leave. It seems no one was executed tonight, but a list of votes has been pinned to the wall for your perusal.

You now have the rest of the evening to explore the park, before night comes again.

And now it is likely there will be eight VIPs to contend with...

[Peko's twisting a strand of hair around her finger. She DID NOT ENJOY THE RIDE ONE BIT. WHAT A TERRIBLE ROLLER COASTER.]

So? What is the strategy from here?

Well...

[Mahiru's leaning exhausted against a railing with her arms crossed.]

The odds are going to improve a little bit tomorrow... but not a whole lot.
perfectstrike: (500% done)

[personal profile] perfectstrike 2014-09-25 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
The odds will improve because another person will be dead.

And we are no closer to discovering the VIPs identities. If we're to--

[And she almost finished that with avenge Ishtar's death. But she stops, takes an awkward second to rephrase,] ensure that no one's deaths are in vain, then we must start gathering and releasing more information.
photonement: Frowning and speaking (Refusal)

[personal profile] photonement 2014-09-25 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
That's right. Another person is way too likely to die tomorrow - or, heck, two people, more likely than not. I know... honesty might cost someone their life... but we have no other way of stopping this...
perfectstrike: (contemplative)

[personal profile] perfectstrike 2014-09-25 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps there is something in the park itself we have overlooked.

The paper can be tampered with, [sorry Aya,] but there are plenty of places where one might secretly hide information to be discovered.
photonement: Forcing a smile and speaking (Patient)

[personal profile] photonement 2014-09-25 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
You really think we've got to turn this place inside out? I don't know how that timetable would work... but if you wanna go scuba-diving in the lake...

[You're Kuzuryuu's pal, maybe you see things that way too]

Find them, of course! And convince them to stop.
perfectstrike: (listening)

[personal profile] perfectstrike 2014-09-25 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
How?

If we could perhaps discover the motive, we could use it to determine who is a VIP. There is always something that someone could kill for... I am not certain if it will be so easy to simply convince them to stop.
mediumburgers: (= ...)

[personal profile] mediumburgers 2014-09-25 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
If we could take away whatever's motivating them, that would be a start. But it might be kind of... hard. When we don't even know who's doing this.
perfectstrike: (500% done)

[personal profile] perfectstrike 2014-09-25 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
We do not know the person, so we cannot know the motivation. We do not know the motivation, so we cannot know the person.

It is impossible to figure out, at this point. We need more information, and a way to get it that can be trusted.

Ultimately, it will come back to trust.

Maybe we could have everyone make a list of what would hypothetically motivate them. And use... that... somehow.

Right now it doesn't seem like anyone trusts anything.

[ Okay that was terrible and she's feeling a little nauseous still, so she smooths down her hair in an attempt to soothe her queasiness too. ]

We'll need the detective and buddy cops to pass their results on to us first.
perfectstrike: (ハーッ?)

[personal profile] perfectstrike 2014-09-25 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
If they cannot trust the paper, [and lbr, Peko's not sure she trusts the paper completely, herself,] then perhaps there could be a place designated for information to be dropped anonymously?
royalizing: (hoh?)

[personal profile] royalizing 2014-09-25 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
It would have to be some place secure, so the VIPs won't be able to sabotage it. And out of sight, so someone providing information can't be spied on.

[ She's trying to think of anywhere that fits that description... ]
edealistical: (Closed)

[personal profile] edealistical 2014-09-25 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think there's any place the detective can get that the VIPs can't, though. ...Actually, the VIPS can probably access more parts of the park than us.
belgian: (Passion Chocolat)

[personal profile] belgian 2014-09-25 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
And as soon as we told everyone to leave information there, the VIPs would know where to look to sabotage it.

Watch for as many clues as we can...

[Royce says, with a frown. He did not like that ride, either.]

We need to find patterns. Patterns in the VIP's actions, more...specifically. If there is a murder tonight...then we need to understand why and how it happened. The more we know, the better we can use it against them...
perfectstrike: (contemplative)

[personal profile] perfectstrike 2014-09-25 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
How can we do that? If we do not know very much about any of us, if we are not familiar with how one habitually behaves... I almost wonder if it would not be better to enforce a "buddy system" of our own.

[One can imagine the Engrish when she says buddy system here.]

One where a person is not literally bound, as the game would have it seem, but rather, a small group of three or four to watch each other and get to know each other.
eventhandler: (to force the hand of nature)

[personal profile] eventhandler 2014-09-25 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
You mean, a "buddy system" outside the ones of the game...?

[Could be a plan!]

Hmm. Perhaps. That would be a...wise idea. That would sort out any idiosyncrasies, if they are noticeable.
perfectstrike: (indifferent)

[personal profile] perfectstrike 2014-09-25 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
Indeed. By dorm, by room number -- an assignment as such, while eliminating some aspects of privacy, would at least permit for monitoring during the day.

The main trouble is that the VIPs are permitted in the park overnight, while normal people are not.
shoutoku_administrator: (That was a long time ago)

[personal profile] shoutoku_administrator 2014-09-25 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
It's extremely risky, but sooner or later, this is going to have to become an open war between the VIPs and the detective. We rejected anonymous information, so that leaves only a public announcement of identity.
