dreamland day one

41 players remaining.

[As the day wears on into the afternoon, the dead aren't getting any deader. It's late in the afternoon, and the air is beginning to cool, when the chimes play again over the park loudspeaker.
"All of us here at Dreamland wish you luck, guests! Let's meet up in the Hall of Mirrors!"

Wherever you are, it's time to make your way over to the House of Horrors, where you'll have to brave the funhouse to find the room on the top floor. Don't delay, or your guest identification bracelet will begin beeping. The House of Mirrors is a large room, more than capable of fitting a crowd. Tall mirrors line every wall, and the door you entered through seems to vanish into a mirror as well. The mirrors give the impression that many, many more are among your number, standing in the background.

In the back is a jar filled with blank raffle tickets. You'll have to take a ticket, write down a name, and place it back in the jar. Hopefully you already know who you're voting for, but if not, you only have time for a brief discussion before you're out of time.

I keep saying it, we need more evidence! We need to sniff out these VIPs and if the detectives of buddy cops or whatever get information, they need to give it to us! And note just by shady notes!

You can say it all you want, but if you think the note's too shady, you gotta accept that the detective's hiding right now! Like a coward!

[personal profile] ionicwoman 2014-09-25 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
The detective is hiding like a coward! If that note is a fake, the real detective must have gotten a real clue! So why haven't we seen it?

[personal profile] loveisanopendoor 2014-09-25 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe they're trying to protect someone..?

[personal profile] ionicwoman 2014-09-25 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
There are forty-one people here that need protecting!

[personal profile] uncoincidental 2014-09-25 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
The longer the detective lives, the more good they can do. If they stay quiet until they find a bunch of the VIPs, they can reveal them all at once. That way, even if the VIPs kill them that night, we still know who to be careful of.
ionicwoman: (pic#8325687)

[personal profile] ionicwoman 2014-09-25 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
So we kill innocent people in the meantime?
uncoincidental: (046)

[personal profile] uncoincidental 2014-09-25 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not saying that. But if the detective is killed this early because the VIPs figure them out right away, a lot more innocent people will die.
ionicwoman: (pic#8325723)

[personal profile] ionicwoman 2014-09-25 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not saying the detective needs to reveal themselves. [That's waaay too dangerous and she wouldn't want anyone to risk themselves like that] I'm saying they need to find a way to get the information to us.

And just because the VIPs don't know who the detective is doesn't mean they're safe. What if the detective gets killed anyway?
royalizing: (oh?)

[personal profile] royalizing 2014-09-25 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
If the detective can find a regular guest during their investigation, then surely they can confide in them without worrying about being revealed.

[ That is, as long as that person isn't converted... ]

edealistical: (Thoughtful)

[personal profile] edealistical 2014-09-25 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Actually...

Shouldn't we have two clues? There's three investigative roles, and they get two clues between them if I'm reading this right. I'd say they just haven't figured out a way to get the information to us.
loveisanopendoor: (Oh okay)

[personal profile] loveisanopendoor 2014-09-25 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it certainly would be a bit of a challenge to get what they found to us discretely. And I think we're all in agreement that publishing it in the newspaper like that isn't exactly very discrete...
edealistical: ((...))

[personal profile] edealistical 2014-09-25 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
...To be honest, I'm kind of stumped about how that's supposed to happen, too.

It would be easier for the 'buddy cops', I think. You could have a code that could only be cracked with two keys provided by two keys or something.
belgian: (Passion Chocolat)

[personal profile] belgian 2014-09-25 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
There's always the chance that note in the paper really is from the detective.
ionicwoman: (pic#8325723)

[personal profile] ionicwoman 2014-09-25 12:42 am (UTC)(link)

ionicwoman: (pic#8325685)

[personal profile] ionicwoman 2014-09-25 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't the clue about alignment and not who's a VIP? If the detective found out Legion's alignment, all they had to do was right "Legion is a VIP because his alignment is ___"
belgian: (Dolfin)

[personal profile] belgian 2014-09-25 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
The rules say the alignments are guest and special guest, so saying special guest is saying the alignment.
ionicwoman: (pic#8325723)

[personal profile] ionicwoman 2014-09-25 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
There's still gotta be more to the clue.

jingler: sprite (far away from the milky teat)

[personal profile] jingler 2014-09-25 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
A coward? No. They are smart to hide. Especially if they are not the one who wrote that note. This could be a ruse on the VIPs part to draw the detective out. They cannot afford to reveal themselves at this stage of the game, even in the wake of an accusatory but anonymous message.
loveisanopendoor: (I never knew why)

[personal profile] loveisanopendoor 2014-09-25 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
That's right. It's definitely way too early for the detective to publicly state who he is. But at the same time...every night he gets more information, we run the risk of more innocent people getting murdered...
glasshole: (pleasant | time to slash the budget)

[personal profile] glasshole 2014-09-25 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't that taking it a little far?

I agree that if the Detective saw that we were going to execute Legion, it would be difficult to justify their decision to remain quiet. But seeing that we aren't taking the note seriously...

At any rate, the detective is only another player. I'm sure they're only waiting until they've settled on a safe strategy to help us.
photonement: Hand raised in front of cheek and mouth hanging open (Wonder)

[personal profile] photonement 2014-09-25 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
I guess in that case it could make sense that the real detective is waiting this out... and isn't trying to push us very hard to lynch Legion after all.

But... what do you think the safest strategy would be, Otori?

[staring at him... I'm not gonna lie she's thinking what if he were the detective, she has that lightbulb face]
glasshole: (intrigued | ah you're an idiot)

[personal profile] glasshole 2014-09-25 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
[If he notices, he doesn't react.]

I wish I could think of a safe strategy, but every way forward I see has its own risks.

I think not voting is likely for the best. If anything, I'm only convinced that Legion isn't a killer after today. We'd be better off selecting at random from the forty others, but that's hardly something I'm prepared to suggest.
photonement: Forcing a smile and speaking (Patient)

[personal profile] photonement 2014-09-25 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, those odds are -- what, three percent better??? I'm not going out on a limb for that.
