42 players remaining.

[Once the announcements are over, there's no further response from the voice over the intercom. The afternoon wears on, demanding nothing more of you. The park will remain open until late in the evening, when the fireworks go off, but you can always go back earlier.

In fact, it might be wise to gather your fellow players and discuss what you've learned in the mess hall.]

This is a mingle following the plot revelations yesterday! Characters can gather in the mess hall and discuss what they've learned and make plans. Night will go up at the same time, and this post will be backdated.

[When the opportunity presents itself, Levi raises his voice so at least most of those around him can hear.]

For now, information is the most valuable thing we can get. We could uncover something by exploring the park, but there are three people here who can give us foolproof information every night.

They obviously shouldn't reveal themselves, but there are ways they can communicate to the group without giving up their identities. They could easily leave messages around the park, and distinguish each of them in some way to prevent fakes. If they're taking their responsibilities seriously, they could update us every morning this way with two names and whether or not they are VIPs.

As long as they remain alive, it won't take more than three weeks for them to discover the alignment of every person here. Things won't be so smooth and simple, but if the detectives could somehow build a consistent and accurate back and forth with the rest of us, it would be damn useful.

This isn't a bad idea at all. Knowledge is power, right?

I can think of a couple of ways that they could leave messages around the park, but... [If she says them right here, then anyone would know and the VIPs could make fakes. A dilemma.]

After a couple of nights, they'd have a handful of people that they would know if it's safe to talk to or not. They could make allies of the people who they know can be trusted, somehow.

Only so long as we believe the killers will never have an opportunity to convert someone. Are we really prepared to say we'll execute someone every day?
uncoincidental: (003)

[personal profile] uncoincidental 2014-09-23 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
...

[There is a brief look of chagrin on her face - she'd definitely forgotten about that...]

No. If we're going to execute someone, we should only do it if we have enough proof. There are... probably going to be days where we don't have any.
glasshole: (irritated | this is a pain)

[personal profile] glasshole 2014-09-23 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
That's right. The rules of this game are structured to disfavor that strategy, but strategy is hardly the only thing we'll be taking into consideration.
glasshole: (notebook | time is money)

[personal profile] glasshole 2014-09-23 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
An anonymous report would be an easy thing to fake. Even if we believe a certain symbol can't be replicated, we would be taking a gamble every time we voted.
loveisanopendoor: (Serious)

[personal profile] loveisanopendoor 2014-09-23 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
I was just thinking that...what if one of the VIPs starts pretending to be a detective and leaves us fake clues with fake names? For example, if tomorrow we get two messages, both supposedly from the detectives with names on them, but one's actually a fake..we'd have no way of knowing which one is the real one, right?
royalizing: (hoh?)

[personal profile] royalizing 2014-09-23 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
But that would also help us too, wouldn't it? We would know right away that one of them must be a VIP.
loveisanopendoor: (Last time I brought a guy here she froze)

[personal profile] loveisanopendoor 2014-09-23 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
We'd know that a VIP left a fake, yeah, but that's not too much of a help, really...it just makes us doubt the authenticity of both messages.

The first time we acted on the information, it would have to be on faith...a rather disturbing prospect.

If we were successful...it's doubtful subsequent frauds could perfectly reproduce the handwriting.
shortcutter: (they adore me so)

[personal profile] shortcutter 2014-09-23 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
You're right. But if the killings do start, then we're all gambling our lives every night the game continues. It would be stupid to act rashly, but… in the end, we're going to have to play it by ear.

[Edea is flipping through the rulebook...]

When it says 'guests' versus 'special guests', what does 'special guest' actually mean? Right above it, it says some of the guests have 'special roles'. So is the ability to identify a VIP or to identify anyone with any role at all?
loveisanopendoor: (Oh okay)

[personal profile] loveisanopendoor 2014-09-23 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
For the Detectives, you mean? It looks like it's only going to be able to tell you whether or not someone is, y'know, a buddy cop, or a medical team person, or a VIP...but probably not specifically what they are. Just whether they have a special role or not. If it just told you outright "so-and-so is a VIP," that would probably be a little too much...
edealistical: (Serious)

[personal profile] edealistical 2014-09-23 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
That's what I thought.

I think it's much safer to use this to identify the innocent rather than the guilty. Imagine executing someone with a 'special guest' role and finding out that you've killed the protector...
loveisanopendoor: (I never knew why)

[personal profile] loveisanopendoor 2014-09-23 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
The idea of executing anyone just seems too horrible for words...but I agree. To use this to seek out someone with a regular guest role sounds better than doing it the other way around. That being said, someone can always be converted from a regular guest to a special guest, too...in the case of VIPs, that is.

[He nods.] I hadn't considered the difference.

[Then he reaches over to take the rulebook she's reading, snatching it from her without even asking, like a jerk. He takes a second to read.]

The word "alignment" is also there, both times. That should mean they'll learn which side the person is on.

[Edea will snatch it right back!]

I need that, thanks.

But 'alignment' can be a neutral term, too. Someone is aligned with the special roles - there's nothing wrong with that sentence. Until we get confirmation, it would be impossibly foolhardy to assume.
