[You wake up in a temporary barracks set up behind an amusement park. The weather is chilly but pleasant, and there aren't any lines for the rides - in fact, it seems you have this place to yourself. The entire park appears to have been abandoned some years ago, and though everything is in working order, it is overgrown with plants and seems rusted and unsafe.

As for you, something has happened, though you aren't sure what. There's a throbbing pain in your head, and you can't focus, as though you're coming off heavy pain medications. However you think you should look, you look like a human now. Under the bandages wrapped around your temple, old and smelling like blood, you'll find a recently stitched up scar wound and the inability to focus on your memories. You have no knowledge of how you came to be here; you may even have forgotten certain aspects of your life, or feel confused about them. The fact of your missing memories is obvious, a dark blank spot. Under the bandages around your wrist, you'll find a brightly colored bracelet, decorated with the face of the smiling cartoon animal on your wall, embedded into your flesh. It beeps a merry tune and welcomes you to DreamLand Fun Park. Just then, a voice comes over the loudspeaker.]

"Good morning to all of our new guests! The park is now open! We'll get started later, but for now, have a magical day with your new friends! Oh, and there may be a few nasty side effects to your medical condition. If you meet someone having trouble adjusting to reality, please be polite!"

[In your room, you'll find a small box containing several personal items - no weapons, magical items, or technology advanced beyond the early 21st century, and nothing dangerous, but otherwise anything you would ordinarily find on your person is there. Of course, nothing with cell reception or internet connectivity can manage to pick up a signal.

If you swipe your bracelet against the steel door, it unlocks. You may now explore your accommodations, or venture out into the park.]

Unlikely. If they are still asleep, they should be awoken. This amount of sleep is not in the acceptable parameters for organic health.

Probably! [Oz why.] But I don't think we'll be getting medical attention from the people who caused the injuries, right?

We do not currently possess medigels. We advise proceeding to the nearest doctor immediately.

[That just earns him a laugh. OZ SURE TRIES.]

I don't think that there are any doctors around.

We can perform rudimentary analysis to ensure that your systems are running stably.

Okay! Is there anything that I need to do?

Yes. May we hold your hand again?

[ handshake is the same as handholding, right... ]

[Oz seems down with it apparently?! He holds his hand out with no fuss, at least...]

Sure! Here you go.

[ Legion will hold Oz's hand and look down at it for a few moments in silence. It's not really clear what's happening, in fact, nothing might be happening... But it'll turn its focus back to Oz before too long as it withdraws its hand. ]

[He will not question this strange guy and his strange magic hand-checking ways...]

That means I'm fine, right? Thanks for checking! I feel better now, knowing that. [Not like he really seemed bothered before but?!] You're a pretty nice guy, aren't you?

[ Those plates on Legion's face puff up curiously ]

I can't say that I really understand it entirely, but there's definitely nothing wrong with diplomacy or wanting to understand other people. I wouldn't mind learning more about, um... "synthetics"? Is that what you called yourself?

[TELL HIM MORE ABOUT YOURSELF, FRIEND.]

We are Geth. Synthetics are more than simply Geth. Any AI or VI created by organics is a synthetic.

[ A pause, then Legion adds, ] However, we are one of the few to have true sentience.

So... You're Geth, which is a type of AI or VI? But most of them aren't sentient. [he repeats it back just to make sure he's got it, but it seems like he understands, even if it's a concept way beyond himself technologically-speaking.]

Did you gain it, or were you born that way?

That is correct.

[ Then after a pause, Legion will just tell the story of the Geth. At least, the condensed version. ]

We gained it. But we are not born. Geth were created by the Creators, the Quarians. We were labor units. Our network allowed us to share the information we learned, and so we gained sentience. We are unable to pinpoint an exact moment when this occurred. However, it is commonly believed to have been when a unit asked its creator if it had a soul.

[ which is... pretty heavy, but Legion continues evenly ]

The Creators sought to destroy us. So we fought for our continued existence. Then fled. Now we create new units and upload our programs into them when needed. We do not exist as organics do. But we wish to understand. We still wish to know the answer to that unit's question.

[WHAT THE HELL THAT'S ALL REALLY HEAVY... Oz takes a few seconds to process that, and his expression shifts to something a little more serious.]

That's... sad. [to ask your creator a question like that and be destroyed in answer.]

...What do you think right now? About having a soul?

[ There's a long pause at that, but the answer comes with a bit more flatness in tone, as if Legion were... sad? ]

[Oz seems to think that over for a little, but when he speaks again, it's with a little more of his usual gusto.]

If you can learn stuff on your own and make your own decisions and do all of the things that you said you did, I think that's an answer! You were even "born", weren't you? Being created is still a type of birth, I think. So... if there's a place that you came from, there's a place that you can go.

This is one definition we find acceptable. We still are looking for that place to go. But that is why we found Shepard-Commander. Though being exposed to organics and learning about them peacefully is also a way forward.

Is Shepard-Commander an important person to you?

[ Legion turns its head, seeming to look at its shoulder, where one piece of its armor doesn't seem to mesh with the rest. It's black, with a red stripe, and with the letters "N7". To Oz, it won't mean anything at all, unfortunately, but after that glance, Legion looks back at Oz. ]

Yes. Shepard-Commander will stop the Collectors. She will also help the Geth to eliminate the heretics.
