day four - afternoon
![]() [As the day wears on into the afternoon, the dead aren't getting any deader. It's late in the afternoon, and the air is beginning to cool, when the chimes play again over the park loudspeaker. "All of us here at Dreamland wish you luck, guests! Let's meet up in the Hall of Mirrors!" Wherever you are, it's time to make your way over to the House of Horrors, where you'll have to brave the funhouse to find the room on the top floor. Don't delay, or your guest identification bracelet will begin beeping. The House of Mirrors is a large room, more than capable of fitting a crowd. Tall mirrors line every wall, and the door you entered through seems to vanish into a mirror as well. The mirrors give the impression that many, many more are among your number, standing in the background. In the back is a jar filled with blank raffle tickets. You'll have to take a ticket, write down a name, and place it back in the jar. Hopefully you already know who you're voting for, but if not, you only have time for a brief discussion before you're out of time. character statuses private conversations graveyard Voting will close at 11 PM EST on October 3. |

[ Which is basically what she's saying, so Ciel shakes his head as he adds softly, ] Starfire... She told us she was a single. If we're going to just execute someone for no reason, shouldn't we pick the person that's admitted they wouldn't be dragging someone else with them?
no subject
By offering herself, it is unlikely that Starfire is a VIP. One of the other two could be.

[ He shakes his head, looking troubled ]
They may be targeted by the VIPs tonight, and in fact, you're correct. It seems likely. But... That is different, isn't it?
[ It's not them that's killing them. ]
no subject
I have already failed to protect the most important thing. I cannot afford to continue letting the VIPs think they can win.
no subject
That is— We should not have to do this at all. I know we must, but still, Miss Pekoyama, I am afraid of being wrong.
no subject
If I am wrong, then that burden is on my shoulders. Not yours.

[ Ciel's anger deflates slightly into a difficult expression, but he bows his head. He still looks upset, but he understands what Peko is offering here truly, and it's very kind of her, he feels. It would still be a burden he would be afraid to bear alone, but— ]
Then who?

[She exhales through her nose, and closes her eyes, and for a moment, she looks like what she is; an exhausted, heartbroken teenager. But she opens them again, and her expression firms.]
It is the only real choice we have.
no subject
I... I suppose you're right.
[ Ciel takes a deep breath to steel himself, then looks up at Peko. His expression is still cool and serious, but his words, at least, are more genuine. ]
Thank you, Miss Pekoyama.

[She isn't exactly sure how to accept thanks for something like this, so she just bends slightly at the waist, bowing her head.]
no subject
[ So, no matter what, everything sucks. ]

[ This is actually pretty upsetting... ]
We refused to kill Legion without evidence... What happened to us?

[Oz is also pretty genuinely upset, which is probably obvious. It's not like he really blames anyone, because survival is a strong motivator, but wow guys.]

[ Ciel grits his teeth and clutches his hands lightly at his side. ]
This is more than just desperation, it feels like. I don't want to let the damn VIPs have a convert either, but this is no better.
no subject
...What will you do? The situation... [is somehow worse than it was like an hour ago???]
no subject
[ He shakes his head, upset, but just ends up sighing, defeated. ]
I don't know what to do. No answer seems right.

[ In other words, we're terrible. ]

So we'll trample upon each other and crush them under our feet. We're no better than animals like this. There's not even logic at play anymore.
no subject
But the other choice... is to let ourselves be killed, isn't it? We're all just trying to buy another day, so we can find out how to end this.

[ His expression turns sour again as he shakes his head ]
To see it come to this... I never thought it would turn this bad.
