dreamland day four

31 players remaining.

[As the day wears on into the afternoon, the dead aren't getting any deader. It's late in the afternoon, and the air is beginning to cool, when the chimes play again over the park loudspeaker.
"All of us here at Dreamland wish you luck, guests! Let's meet up in the Hall of Mirrors!"

Wherever you are, it's time to make your way over to the House of Horrors, where you'll have to brave the funhouse to find the room on the top floor. Don't delay, or your guest identification bracelet will begin beeping. The House of Mirrors is a large room, more than capable of fitting a crowd. Tall mirrors line every wall, and the door you entered through seems to vanish into a mirror as well. The mirrors give the impression that many, many more are among your number, standing in the background.

In the back is a jar filled with blank raffle tickets. You'll have to take a ticket, write down a name, and place it back in the jar. Hopefully you already know who you're voting for, but if not, you only have time for a brief discussion before you're out of time.

...! I knew we were running low on singles...! This is bad... What do we do? We have to vote for someone!
cheats: (return of lyric keywords)

[personal profile] cheats 2014-10-04 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
...No matter what, if we vote for someone randomly, we're likely to pick a pair at this point.

[ Which is basically what she's saying, so Ciel shakes his head as he adds softly, ] Starfire... She told us she was a single. If we're going to just execute someone for no reason, shouldn't we pick the person that's admitted they wouldn't be dragging someone else with them?
perfectstrike: (pained)

[personal profile] perfectstrike 2014-10-04 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
By admitting they were buddies, the VIPs will only kill them tonight, will they not? The medical team can only protect one of them, according to the rules.

By offering herself, it is unlikely that Starfire is a VIP. One of the other two could be.
cheats: (just made it out the precinct)

[personal profile] cheats 2014-10-04 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Or they could both be innocent and genuinely trying to defend their lives. That is what I worry more for, Miss Pekoyama.

[ He shakes his head, looking troubled ]

They may be targeted by the VIPs tonight, and in fact, you're correct. It seems likely. But... That is different, isn't it?

[ It's not them that's killing them. ]
perfectstrike: (best me? really?)

[personal profile] perfectstrike 2014-10-04 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
I am not afraid to dirty my hands.

I have already failed to protect the most important thing. I cannot afford to continue letting the VIPs think they can win.

[ Ciel's expression twists into a difficult one as he grits his teeth, because... He understands. And he agrees, too. But... ]

That is— We should not have to do this at all. I know we must, but still, Miss Pekoyama, I am afraid of being wrong.
perfectstrike: (resolve)

[personal profile] perfectstrike 2014-10-04 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Then cast your vote as mine, because I am telling you to.

If I am wrong, then that burden is on my shoulders. Not yours.
cheats: (and my eyes)

[personal profile] cheats 2014-10-04 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Ah... Well...

[ Ciel's anger deflates slightly into a difficult expression, but he bows his head. He still looks upset, but he understands what Peko is offering here truly, and it's very kind of her, he feels. It would still be a burden he would be afraid to bear alone, but— ]

Then who?
perfectstrike: (all the king's horses)

[personal profile] perfectstrike 2014-10-04 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Abernathy... or Harime.

[She exhales through her nose, and closes her eyes, and for a moment, she looks like what she is; an exhausted, heartbroken teenager. But she opens them again, and her expression firms.]

It is the only real choice we have.
cheats: (all these girls)

[personal profile] cheats 2014-10-04 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
[ He clearly doesn't like it, since Ciel looks down because his expression mirrors Peko's. He's not heartbroken like she is, but this is still hard on a Ciel when he's just a boy. He fancied himself the Queen's Watchdog, but faced with situations like this? He truly felt his age, and he hated that about himself. ]

I... I suppose you're right.

[ Ciel takes a deep breath to steel himself, then looks up at Peko. His expression is still cool and serious, but his words, at least, are more genuine. ]

Thank you, Miss Pekoyama.
perfectstrike: (pained)

[personal profile] perfectstrike 2014-10-04 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
...Mm.

[She isn't exactly sure how to accept thanks for something like this, so she just bends slightly at the waist, bowing her head.]
mediumburgers: (= unsure)

[personal profile] mediumburgers 2014-10-04 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
That does make sense, but she's also one of the less likely people to be a VIP just based on that. Not that it's really that likely that Francis or Nui are really VIPs, either.

[ So, no matter what, everything sucks. ]
cheats: (so Eric B. we are)

[personal profile] cheats 2014-10-04 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Then we either kill one person or two today. That's what it comes down to, isn't it?
mediumburgers: art by <user name="607282" site="pixiv.com"> (SAD ► welp)

[personal profile] mediumburgers 2014-10-04 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
I guess it does, unless we argue that by killing two people we're more likely to get a VIP.
cheats: (I'm addicted to the thrill)

[personal profile] cheats 2014-10-04 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Yet if that's the logic we're operating off of, then what's become of us in just five days?

[ This is actually pretty upsetting... ]

We refused to kill Legion without evidence... What happened to us?
harepiece: (valleys like snow)

[personal profile] harepiece 2014-10-04 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Desperation. In a situation like this, that's the natural course this would follow.

[Oz is also pretty genuinely upset, which is probably obvious. It's not like he really blames anyone, because survival is a strong motivator, but wow guys.]
cheats: (peace god)

[personal profile] cheats 2014-10-04 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
This is...

[ Ciel grits his teeth and clutches his hands lightly at his side. ]

This is more than just desperation, it feels like. I don't want to let the damn VIPs have a convert either, but this is no better.
harepiece: (white plaster windows)

[personal profile] harepiece 2014-10-04 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
[He purses his lips unhappily, shaking his head.]

...What will you do? The situation... [is somehow worse than it was like an hour ago???]
cheats: (if you wanna make it number one)

[personal profile] cheats 2014-10-04 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
I— I do not know...

[ He shakes his head, upset, but just ends up sighing, defeated. ]

I don't know what to do. No answer seems right.

I think this place has gotten to us. People dying every day when we wake up, then we have to go murder someone ourselves or risk losing more people. We've gotten desperate, so afraid that more people will die if we don't throw each other under the bus...

[ In other words, we're terrible. ]
cheats: (we give a damn)

[personal profile] cheats 2014-10-04 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
[ Ciel shakes his head as he looks down towards his feet ]

So we'll trample upon each other and crush them under our feet. We're no better than animals like this. There's not even logic at play anymore.

We're not much better than the VIPs, either. Maybe a little, but. Not really. At least they're smarter than we seem to be.

But the other choice... is to let ourselves be killed, isn't it? We're all just trying to buy another day, so we can find out how to end this.
cheats: (but renaming doesn't work)

[ His expression turns sour again as he shakes his head ]

To see it come to this... I never thought it would turn this bad.

I think we're less likely to get one if we vote for someone who offered herself up. All a VIP who wants out has to do is say they're a VIP. She didn't say that, or Nui would be going on about that too.
mediumburgers: (- :/)

[personal profile] mediumburgers 2014-10-04 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, exactly. Starfire's less likely to be a VIP by virtue of that, but Nui or Francis have a chance of being one since the reverse is true. Sort of. I guess?
