dreamland day four 31 players remaining. [As the day wears on into the afternoon, the dead aren't getting any deader. It's late in the afternoon, and the air is beginning to cool, when the chimes play again over the park loudspeaker. "All of us here at Dreamland wish you luck, guests! Let's meet up in the Hall of Mirrors!" Wherever you are, it's time to make your way over to the House of Horrors, where you'll have to brave the funhouse to find the room on the top floor. Don't delay, or your guest identification bracelet will begin beeping. The House of Mirrors is a large room, more than capable of fitting a crowd. Tall mirrors line every wall, and the door you entered through seems to vanish into a mirror as well. The mirrors give the impression that many, many more are among your number, standing in the background. In the back is a jar filled with blank raffle tickets. You'll have to take a ticket, write down a name, and place it back in the jar. Then we either kill one person or two today. That's what it comes down to, isn't it?

I guess it does, unless we argue that by killing two people we're more likely to get a VIP.

Yet if that's the logic we're operating off of, then what's become of us in just five days?

[ This is actually pretty upsetting... ]

We refused to kill Legion without evidence... What happened to us?

[harepiece]

Desperation. In a situation like this, that's the natural course this would follow.

[Oz is also pretty genuinely upset, which is probably obvious. It's not like he really blames anyone, because survival is a strong motivator, but wow guys.]

[cheats]

This is...

[ Ciel grits his teeth and clutches his hands lightly at his side. ]

This is more than just desperation, it feels like. I don't want to let the damn VIPs have a convert either, but this is no better.

[harepiece]

[He purses his lips unhappily, shaking his head.]

...What will you do? The situation... [is somehow worse than it was like an hour ago???]

[cheats]

I— I do not know...

[ He shakes his head, upset, but just ends up sighing, defeated. ]

I don't know what to do. No answer seems right.

[harepiece]

[He bows his head a little in a brief nod, quiet.]

...In this situation, the only thing that can be done is to follow what seems closest to "right" to you.

[cheats]

Then... Francis. I...

[ He hesitates, then shakes his head ] We know Nui is innocent. But if VIPs really are paired with innocent people, then... We couldn't win that battle anyways.

[harepiece]

...The odds don't support him, it's true.

[But Oz still can't bring himself to vote, not when one of the pair is a definite confirmed innocent and an innocent who doesn't want to die.]

[cheats]

[ He looks at Oz carefully, then frowns as he looks away. ]

You're a kind person, you know. I don't know how you can keep that up.

[harepiece]

...I don't think that it's particularly kind. It's just - what I think is right. [He shifts where he stands, discomforted.]

The people who say that voting for no one is a bad choice aren't wrong, either. But I personally can't condone additional loss of life for the sake of self-protection.

[mediumburgers]

I think this place has gotten to us. People dying every day when we wake up, then we have to go murder someone ourselves or risk losing more people. We've gotten desperate, so afraid that more people will die if we don't throw each other under the bus...

[ In other words, we're terrible. ]

[cheats]

[ Ciel shakes his head as he looks down towards his feet ]

So we'll trample upon each other and crush them under our feet. We're no better than animals like this. There's not even logic at play anymore.

[mediumburgers]

We're not much better than the VIPs, either. Maybe a little, but. Not really. At least they're smarter than we seem to be.

But the other choice... is to let ourselves be killed, isn't it? We're all just trying to buy another day, so we can find out how to end this.

[cheats]

I know, but...

[ His expression turns sour again as he shakes his head ]

To see it come to this... I never thought it would turn this bad.

[mediumburgers]

Neither did I. I thought if we all stuck together, if we all just trusted each other, that we'd be okay, all fighting for a common goal. Not... falling directly into the bad guy's trap.

[cheats]

That's exactly what we're doing, isn't it?

[ He shakes his head with grit teeth. ]

This is cruel. We were all kind to each other to start, but now this? Is this what people are really like?

I think we're less likely to get one if we vote for someone who offered herself up. All a VIP who wants out has to do is say they're a VIP. She didn't say that, or Nui would be going on about that too.

[mediumburgers]

Yeah, exactly. Starfire's less likely to be a VIP by virtue of that, but Nui or Francis have a chance of being one since the reverse is true. Sort of. I guess?
