dreamland day three

34 players remaining.

There are no clocks in your dorm room to help you mark the passing of time, but at a certain point, in the early hours of the morning, a cheerful chime tune plays over the loudspeaker. Whether you're awake or asleep, the door to your dorm room is now unlocked. You'll have about a forty five minutes, in which you can get ready or grab some breakfast, before the door that allows you into the park unlocks. By this time, you may or may not have noticed that one of your number is missing.

The chimes play again, to announce that the park is open, and the rides and music begin to come back to life as a voice plays over the loudspeaker.

"Rise and shine! Let's have a lot of fun and look for the bodies, too!"

You will have until 4 PM to explore the park and talk amongst yourselves. Somewhere in the park, you'll find the bodies of Dipper Pines and Mahiru Koizumi.

[ The kid in the cape and mask jumps up onto one of the tables to make an announcement. He looks ridiculous. ]

Thought of something.

In the rulebook. It's stated that buddies aren't necessarily on the same side. This morning, a pair of them died. Announcement said that no VIPs had been killed. Maybe Mahiru or Dipper had an important role, but either way, they were both innocent. The VIPs went for someone they knew none of 'em were connected to.

If you have a buddy, start thinking hard. They could be a VIP. Maybe you know that, and maybe you don't. But any VIP with an innocent buddy isn't going to want to target them, because they'd die too. To execute VIPs... we might be sacrificing innocent people along with them. And any innocent person who knows they're connected to a VIP and says nothing about is... is technically working against us.

I don't know. It's something to think about.

...I don't think the innocents who have buddies that are VIPs know that they're VIPs. That's a secret from everyone, isn't it? Wouldn't they just know that they have a buddy?

The VIPs would know, but the innocents... isn't it more likely that they're in the dark just as much as we are?

[personal profile] chronic 2014-09-29 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
But maybe they've been told. Think about it. Wouldn't it be advantageous for a VIP to go 'Hey, innocent person, I'm paired with you. But I'm a VIP, so if you want to live, you can't target me.' Right?

...!

[Oh, that's... true. Sheba's eyes go wide and then she nods.]

You've got a point. But I'm not sure if the VIPs would have done something like that just yet. Most of the people who have been vocal about outing them and not cooperating have already turned up dead... it could be that they haven't seen the need to.

It could also be that they're still not sure if that tactic could be used against their buddies. If I had a buddy, and they told me they were a VIP... and that if I wanted to live, I'd have to let them keep killing people and protect them... I want to live, but I'm not sure if I could do it at the cost of protecting a murderer. I'd out them, out myself, and take them down with me.

...but not everyone is going to be prepared to do that, so they could definitely have done that sort of thing to people they're more sure of.

Yeah... But I don't know if everyone's as noble as you. Some people just don't want to die. Maybe they're not willing to sacrifice themselves for the most of us.

[ He rubs his cheek with a gloved hand. ]

Maybe they haven't made a move for something like that just yet... But it's something to definitely keep in mind. What if we execute Edea tonight and take down someone totally innocent along with her...? Shit.

It's not that I'm noble. But a lot of my friends from home have given up so much for the greater good, I don't think I could face them if I went back and told them, "I'm here because I let a lot of other people die."

[She wants to live, though.]

Everyone's had different experiences up until now, anyway. It makes it hard to predict what they're going to do. Someone with my upbringing will behave differently than someone with an upbringing that isn't at all similar.

...are you going to be okay?

I'm fine. [ He smiles a little. ] Death was never anything to me. But I want to help the people here as much as I can. It would be wrong not to.

...yeah. You're right.

[She tries to smile.] Maybe if Edea has a buddy, they'll come forward before we all vote. But even if they don't, we just have to do whatever we can. Take it one thing at a time, right..?
chronic: (how long must i wait)

Yeah. Barring any sudden revelations, our vote today is pretty much solid.

That's right... we'll just have to cast our votes and work from there. One way or another, we'll know.

[ Is this a fad... she started... catching on? Clash tries not to gloat too much, but that's impossible even when she's focused on the investigation. ]

This game is definitely against us. We have to find all the VIPs for it to end, but there's still the chance of executing someone innocent that comes with it... but if we vote for no one, then someone's just going to be converted again. We're powerless no matter what we do.

I feel like the odds are seriously against us.

It could be even worse if someone with an important role has a buddy. We could execute someone and it'd turn out that they're a buddy of the detective... maybe even one the other roles that'll help us.

It's like this whole thing's against the regular guests. There's going to be casualties no matter what!
chronic: (accidents happen)

[personal profile] chronic 2014-09-30 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Wouldn't be surprised if it's set up that way.

[personal profile] missformed 2014-09-29 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
That's true, isn't it? [She bites her lip, looking worried.] But what should we do if someone's partnered with a VIP and does come forward about it? Sacrificing an innocent person just to execute a guilty one...that makes us no better than the killers.
chronic: (and keep me from the light)

[personal profile] chronic 2014-09-29 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. It's inexcusable. I don't know if we can cross that bridge when we get to it. I guess we'll just see what happens.

I wonder. We have 8 VIP now, and we know approximately half of us are in pairs. If you're right, that would potentially bring our number up to something like 12, wouldn't it?

If nothing is done, they might actually have a chance at the majority vote quite soon.
chronic: (and situations)

[personal profile] chronic 2014-09-30 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
That's what's got me worried. A few more screw-ups, and they'll control the game.
glasshole: (notebook | my calculations show)

[personal profile] glasshole 2014-09-30 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, it's a very good point, one which didn't occur to me.

And yet, I wonder what we can do to prevent it?

Outside of hoping Missile gets nothing but hits? Not much, it seems.

What an unfortunate position. If there were some way to identify buddies...

But I don't suppose many would cooperate.
chronic: (but please keep my mind asleep)

No. At this point, too risky.

...You're right. Then, we'll have to hope that the people here aren't willing to condemn us all to die just for their own life.
