dreamland day three 34 players remaining. There are no clocks in your dorm room to help you mark the passing of time, but at a certain point, in the early hours of the morning, a cheerful chime tune plays over the loudspeaker. Whether you're awake or asleep, the door to your dorm room is now unlocked. You'll have about a forty five minutes, in which you can get ready or grab some breakfast, before the door that allows you into the park unlocks. By this time, you may or may not have noticed that one of your number is missing. The chimes play again, to announce that the park is open, and the rides and music begin to come back to life as a voice plays over the loudspeaker. "Rise and shine! Let's have a lot of fun and look for the bodies, too!" You will have until 4 PM to explore the park and talk amongst yourselves. ...I don't think the innocents who have buddies that are VIPs know that they're VIPs. That's a secret from everyone, isn't it? Wouldn't they just know that they have a buddy?

The VIPs would know, but the innocents... isn't it more likely that they're in the dark just as much as we are?

But maybe they've been told. Think about it. Wouldn't it be advantageous for a VIP to go 'Hey, innocent person, I'm paired with you. But I'm a VIP, so if you want to live, you can't target me.' Right?

I'll ask her if she's up for it.

[He looks a little pleased.]

Well, I won't rely on their assumptions.

[Oh, that's... true. Sheba's eyes go wide and then she nods.]

You've got a point. But I'm not sure if the VIPs would have done something like that just yet. Most of the people who have been vocal about outing them and not cooperating have already turned up dead... it could be that they haven't seen the need to.

It could also be that they're still not sure if that tactic could be used against their buddies. If I had a buddy, and they told me they were a VIP... and that if I wanted to live, I'd have to let them keep killing people and protect them... I want to live, but I'm not sure if I could do it at the cost of protecting a murderer. I'd out them, out myself, and take them down with me.

...but not everyone is going to be prepared to do that, so they could definitely have done that sort of thing to people they're more sure of.

Yeah... But I don't know if everyone's as noble as you. Some people just don't want to die. Maybe they're not willing to sacrifice themselves for the most of us.

[ He rubs his cheek with a gloved hand. ]

Maybe they haven't made a move for something like that just yet... But it's something to definitely keep in mind. What if we execute Edea tonight and take down someone totally innocent along with her...? Shit.

It's not that I'm noble. But a lot of my friends from home have given up so much for the greater good, I don't think I could face them if I went back and told them, "I'm here because I let a lot of other people die."

[She wants to live, though.]

Everyone's had different experiences up until now, anyway. It makes it hard to predict what they're going to do. Someone with my upbringing will behave differently than someone with an upbringing that isn't at all similar.

[Peko just nods, squeezing Mabel's shoulder before pushing herself to her feet.]

We'll work together to solve this. No one can stand in your way.

[She taps the now-empty spot on her arm.]

Return that to me after the murderer hangs.

[Peko... Peko you shouldn't be encouraging a little kid that voting and executing people is the right thing to do...]

I'm fine. [ He smiles a little. ] Death was never anything to me. But I want to help the people here as much as I can. It would be wrong not to.

[godwhisperer]

I ought to have explained. About the lambs.

[What is he talking about. Oh well, he seems to expect Peko to understand.]

But it is no matter. We will kill one of them tonight. And I will do my all to continue to ensure they are killed.

Afternoon

[chainjailer]

[Kurapika avoided the crowd for the most part during the day, too angry over the double murder to trust himself. Once he'd finally gotten a better look at the bodies without bursting a vein in his head, he put together something to tell the group.]

A sniper rifle. [He says simply.] It looks like they were shot from a distance, so it might have been a sniper rifle.

Legion said using one took a fair amount of skill, because you had to calculate how the bullet would fall and respond to wind. [He raises a finger.] His profile is the only one that mentions them in particular. Even if that first Detective's note was a fake, we can't mark Legion as innocent just yet.

[uncoincidental]

...yeah. You're right.

[She tries to smile.] Maybe if Edea has a buddy, they'll come forward before we all vote. But even if they don't, we just have to do whatever we can. Take it one thing at a time, right..?

[chronic]

Yeah. Barring any sudden revelations, our vote today is pretty much solid.

[perfectstrike]

[When he flinches, she withdraws her hand and just nods. She won't ask for the scarf back, either; she pushes herself to her feet and crosses her arms with a firm nod.]

Good. Let me know if you find anything.

[YOU CAN DO IT CIEL...]

[ Is this a fad... she started... catching on? Clash tries not to gloat too much, but that's impossible even when she's focused on the investigation. ]

This game is definitely against us. We have to find all the VIPs for it to end, but there's still the chance of executing someone innocent that comes with it... but if we vote for no one, then someone's just going to be converted again. We're powerless no matter what we do.

[uncoincidental]

That's right... we'll just have to cast our votes and work from there. One way or another, we'll know.

[missformed]

That's true, isn't it? [She bites her lip, looking worried.] But what should we do if someone's partnered with a VIP and does come forward about it? Sacrificing an innocent person just to execute a guilty one...that makes us no better than the killers.

[godwhisperer]

No. They cannot defeat us. But many will die before the end arrives.

[glasshole]

Ah, that too. It's awful.

[There, empathy quota met.]

Based on the past two nights, I could only assume they intended us to believe they had some sort of scruples. But...those willing to commit murder...

[sunshade]

...so, who of us is capable of wielding a sniper rifle? I don't know if we should really take the same initiative that Dipper took yesterday for narrowing the suspect list down, but they do need a certain amount of accuracy. And adequate strength to withstand the recoil force of the rifle firing, and not missing its target.

[missformed]

How can you just turn this into a matter of numbers? [M'gann has been trying to keep up a cheerful attitude, but she looks upset at this.]

None of the people they've killed deserved to die. What their age is shouldn't matter.

[glasshole]

I am. I had found Miss Koizumi pleasant company, but I suppose I can't claim to have really known her.

[ineptus]

[Peko you're a bad influence...

But she nods resolutely, putting on a much more determined face.]

Right! [She turns to her brother's body, letting go of his hand finally. Before doing anything, the body gets one more hug, and then she takes his hat.]

Sorry Dipper...but I need to borrow your stuff for now, okay?

[She puts the hat on her head, standing up and placing her hands on her hips with a deep breath.]

Okay...just gotta investigate this. I'm sure the clues will point to someone!

[ineptus]

[...that gets a little smile out of her and she nods, taking the hot dog with a thank you. Lots of ketchup goes on top of, with just a little mustard to follow. And the napkins should probably be more than an afterthought, otherwise her make up is going to be made more of condiments than actual cosmetics.]

These are pretty good. I've only eaten the cotton candy and ice cream from here...
