dreamland day three 34 players remaining. There are no clocks in your dorm room to help you mark the passing of time, but at a certain point, in the early hours of the morning, a cheerful chime tune plays over the loudspeaker. Whether you're awake or asleep, the door to your dorm room is now unlocked. You'll have about a forty five minutes, in which you can get ready or grab some breakfast, before the door that allows you into the park unlocks. By this time, you may or may not have noticed that one of your number is missing. The chimes play again, to announce that the park is open, and the rides and music begin to come back to life as a voice plays over the loudspeaker. "Rise and shine! Let's have a lot of fun and look for the bodies, too!" You will have until 4 PM to explore the park and talk amongst yourselves. [Thanks, Peko. She would give Mabel a hug, but she isn't about to pull her away from the body. If anyone had tried that with Peko yesterday, they would have been met with violence.]

I don't know. Considering how the only person who threatened Missile isn't here anymore... chances are they're using the fact that everyone likes him as a cover too, but even that just might be an added bonus.

[paws_and_rewind]

[ Sitting at Gundam's heels, Missile's eyes are fixed on Edea and full of blatant doggy wariness. ]

[That would put him in a bit of a different category from Kuzuryuu, then; yakuza heirs are generally rather spoiled. Not that Peko knows Ciel's backstory, nor does she really care to ask, unless he wants to tell her.

She misses the state of his eye entirely, since she's looking away, giving him time to compose himself, pretending as if she had not seen his tears or the vomit.]

There is no need to apologize or explain.

[When he speaks, it draws her attention back to him, and she reaches with one hand to lightly touch his shoulder in another small attempt at comfort. Her own voice is starting to shake a little, but it's actually not because of Koizumi. It's again, because she's remembering comforting Kuzuryuu. God damn.]

I will need to examine the body. Could you check the area for evidence?

[Perhaps giving him something to do, rather than stay here near Koizumi, will help? Peko please never have children. She's basically acting as if he's a tiny adult, just like her. Peko you're not even an adult yourself.]

[She understands what he's saying. And it's so hard for her to let go of the body. So hard. This will be the first time she can think of where they'll actually be apart from each other. And it's because he was dead.

But...Royce at least gets her to let go and sit back. She just holds one of Dipper's hands instead, keeping the other in her lap and her eyes downcast.]

...I-I don't...I don't know what to do...

Surely no one would have been scared by that. Unless he narrowed down a few of them.

[While Peko wouldn't be met with violence, she's right in assuming it's probably better she try not to pull her away. Though she does let go on her own, holding Dipper's hand instead as she wipes furiously at her eyes before looking up at Peko.

But...instead of saying anything, all she can manage to do is start crying again. There's a nod though, so at least she acknowledges and accepts the offer of help.]

He had to, right? If it was just one then they could have ignored it, but if there were a few of them... that might have made them nervous. Even if a lot of people didn't take it seriously.

[ineptus]

[It's okay, Clash. Any help is good for her. She's a very social girl, so just having people there for her is good...it doesn't make anything better - nothing will ever be better - but it helps.

She just watches her for a moment, the bags already forming under her eyes from this whole ordeal dark and still wet with fresh tears, before nodding and holding out a hand towards her.]

[billows]

I had thought the bomb would go off, but—well, things are distinguishable now. [ Not that he sounds particularly pleased about it. ] Are you alright?

[ She looks between her and her outstretched hand a couple of times, then reaches out to grab it. Her palms are extremely soft — like she's never played an instrument in her life — but her grip is firm. She leads them away from the trains and towards the Snake barracks so she can grab her palette.

Even if Mabel isn't a Misfit or even a bandmate, she's not going to ditch her just because she doesn't know how to react. ]

[Oh no Mabel no.

Peko has literally nothing in her pockets, as Kurapika proved the other day. But she does have that red cloth badge around her arm, which she undoes and folds up, pressing it into Mabel's free hand. It's like a handkerchief.]

And your findings for last night? [ she lays down an array of photos of everyone--except the deceased, obviously--torn out from various issues. ]

[ineptus]

[There's no helping it really. They're twins. Mabel expected to wake up and investigate whatever new murder happened to be there with Dipper, and now she's left alone to investigate his death instead.

She looks at the red band for a moment before using it as silently suggested, wiping her eyes.]

I-I'm s-s-sorry.

[ineptus]

[Mabel's grip is almost too firm in return as she follows, still sniffling and hiccuping behind Clash. Make-up might be a bad idea, she'd probably just ruin it with her tears...but she's not going to say no to trying. It won't get her to stop thinking about Dipper, but it'll help distract her a little.

It's not until they reach the barracks that she finally speaks again, even though it's quiet and shaky.]

You have nothing to apologize for.

[She sounds oddly fierce at that, letting her hand touch Mabel's shoulder again to squeeze tightly, trying to prompt the younger girl to meet her eyes.]

You are strong. You will solve this.

[ She looks... conflicted. Clash knows it's something she should expect — something she would normally want to be praised for — but she doesn't. She lapses into a long silence and searches for words that make her look cool, but she's at a loss.

She uses her bracelet to open the door, not letting go of Mabel's hand all the while. ]

After my mom left, my dad was always there for me. [ She grabs her palette, surprised at how much she's revealing right now. Once she clutches it close to her chest, she leads the way to a more open, quiet spot where they can sit and enjoy themselves without feeling cramped. ] We'd always do silly stuff like go to the park and laugh at the geese chasing me or we'd watch cartoons together, he adores me and always has.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that... you're welcome.

[ineptus]

[It works, as she does look up at her at that and the fierce statement. And when Peko says she's strong and that she'll figure it out? At first she looks down again, looking like she's going to cry once more. But instead she nods, clutching to the red band tighter and furrowing her brows a little.]

...y-yeah. I w-will. I've investigated tons of things with D-Dipper I'm...I'm sure I can do this.

[billows]

[ A frustrated look as he tries to think back to the names. ] Oh, it's useless. We can't distinguish one from the other. Only the detective is useful here.

[perfectstrike]

I know you can.

[Peko's just. Kind of at a loss here. She's still reeling from Kuzuryuu's death -- it's actually kind of obvious that Peko didn't sleep at all that night, if the dark bags under her eyes are any indication -- but she doesn't want Mabel incapacitated by this. Not when Dipper's (and Kuzuryuu's) murderers are still walking around, completely fine.

So she reaches to gently take the armband out of Mabel's hands and pin it around her left sleeve. Mabel's arms are probably considerably smaller than Peko's beefy swordsman ones, so she has to wrap it tighter. But here you go. You be the leader, Mabel.]

[ineptus]

[Again Mabel is quiet, listening as the older girl talks and following after her wherever she wanted to go. Clash could probably lead her to the end of the world right now and Mabel would still go quietly after.

But she kind of also trusts her not to do that so. Please not to be leading her to her death.

But when she tells her about her dad and all the stuff they'd do together, she reaches up to wipe at her eyes again. She nods at the, "you're welcome" though.]

Yeah, he listed at least eight or nine people, right? There's no way we can distinguish any of them as the VIP unless their alignment's been confirmed...

Still, I don't want someone thinking I killed a kid just because he thought I killed someone!

He should not provide the names of those who are safe. Let me instead do something to ensure the information is not lost, should...something become of him.

[ She leads them away from any trains or tea cups and steers them toward where the carnival games are instead. At least they can find a sitting place there for her to to Mabel's make-up. The silence makes her feel uneasy, but it isn't like she can interrupt it with something lest it somehow upset her even more. ]

You hungry? The hot dogs here are amazing, they're really greasy.
