dreamland day two

39 players remaining.

[As the day wears on into the afternoon, the dead aren't getting any deader. It's late in the afternoon, and the air is beginning to cool, when the chimes play again over the park loudspeaker.
"All of us here at Dreamland wish you luck, guests! Let's meet up in the Hall of Mirrors!"

Wherever you are, it's time to make your way over to the House of Horrors, where you'll have to brave the funhouse to find the room on the top floor. Don't delay, or your guest identification bracelet will begin beeping. The House of Mirrors is a large room, more than capable of fitting a crowd. Tall mirrors line every wall, and the door you entered through seems to vanish into a mirror as well. The mirrors give the impression that many, many more are among your number, standing in the background.

In the back is a jar filled with blank raffle tickets. You'll have to take a ticket, write down a name, and place it back in the jar. Hopefully you already know who you're voting for, but if not, you only have time for a brief discussion before you're out of time.

I have to agree.

In the end, we might not come to any worthwhile conclusion, but we have several hours to make some more sense of what had happened. Sitting in silence contemplating Legion's fate isn't a good use of our time - even if we agree to vote for him now, we should at least give it some thought.

[a slight pause]

Although... I believe Legion is the only person said to use guns.

Natalia also knows archery but...that's a stretch. I just checked the profiles, and the only one that mentioned guns was Legion's.

Archery is... very different from gunmanship.

[Coming from someone who knows some archery as well.]

Although the fact of the matter is, some of us come from places where there aren't guns - or they're exceedingly rare. I've never even seen one before the ones in the carnival.

I use nonlethal swords and marital arts myself, so I admit I'm not very familiar with the workings of either.

[A shrug. Kurapika generally didn't fight to kill.]

I've seen plenty of guns, but I don't like them. They're cheap.

I know, in theory, what they do, but my training was much the same as yours.

[Except for the nonlethal part.]

It's very strange, isn't it? A lethal weapon was only used to maim, while a crude weapon was the true means of murder...

It sounds like two people were involved, if you ask me. One with the gun and one with whatever they used to hit him with.

That or the killer switched to the melee weapon after shooting Kuzuryuu, which seems strange.

Do you think there was a reason he had to be killed by having his head crushed? Perhaps there was something there that might identify a killer somehow.

[Kurapika raises his fingers to press them to the scar on his temple.]

The only thing that comes to mind are these scares. Otherwise, I really don't know.

[ And like a true archer, she's offended by the comparison. ]

Guns are nothing like archery! Archery requires skill - strength and precision. One must be aware of your surroundings, applying the right amount of strength and aim while taking into account many other factors. You don't simply point and shoot!

[ robots don't get offended, but legion also feels the need to correct... ]

This is inaccurate. They are fairly similar. Especially with sniping. Complex calculations must be performed to be accurate.

[ a pause, then, ] For organics, this amounts to skill and strength.
royalizing: (you must be joking)

[ She just folds her arms... ]

It isn't the same at all. There isn't strength involved when you're simply pulling a lever. Furthermore, the correct posture and stance for archery can take one years to master.

Inaccurate. Recoil from guns takes significant strength to counteract. Especially with larger guns. Records suggest that the Smith and Wesson 460 7.5-inch barrel was measured to have a recoil impulse of 14.0 Ns, a recoil velocity of 8.8 m/s, and a recoil energy of 61.6 J. This is significant to organics, even though this is considered a small firearm.

[ ...

Now he's lost her completely. Dammit this is worse than Jade and Guy combined. ]

... What are you talking about?
5_9: // please forgive me (// dear future me)

[personal profile] 5_9 2014-09-27 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Recoil is a significant worry. It requires extensive training to counteract.

[ That's the English version of what he was trying to say... ]

Ahh... [He raises his hands apologetically.]

My mistake, of course. Like I said, I haven't used either.

Very well. [ Then she gives him a curious glance because he's definitely much calmer than before. ] You look like you're feeling better.

I am, thank you. [Somebody definitely took a chill pill.]

I don't plan on letting it happen again, either.

[ Thank goodness ]

It's all right. I would be furious as well if someone hurt my friend. [ Let alone killed them. ] Did you find what you were looking for?

It says Belgium can use a lot of different weapons. And you don't have to be experienced with a gun to use one...I can shoot a grappling hook really well, I'm sure I could probably shoot a gun too, and I'm only twelve!
edealistical: (Thoughtful)

[personal profile] edealistical 2014-09-27 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
But you'd have to be at least a little experienced to shoot someone who was struggling, right?

He wasn't struggling though! From the investigation we did, it looks like he didn't run and he wasn't fighting back. He was likely dodging his attacker and was probably shot to get him to stop it.

For that matter, there wasn't any sign that Malik-chan fought back, either, right?

[Edea isn't really... very good at murder scene recreations so she'll just take their word for it.]

...They shot him twice, right? Maybe that actually means... someone who wasn't very experienced with guns, then.

[Although that doesn't make too much sense, either...]
