dreamland day one

41 players remaining.

[As the day wears on into the afternoon, the dead aren't getting any deader. It's late in the afternoon, and the air is beginning to cool, when the chimes play again over the park loudspeaker.
"All of us here at Dreamland wish you luck, guests! Let's meet up in the Hall of Mirrors!"

Wherever you are, it's time to make your way over to the House of Horrors, where you'll have to brave the funhouse to find the room on the top floor. Don't delay, or your guest identification bracelet will begin beeping. The House of Mirrors is a large room, more than capable of fitting a crowd. Tall mirrors line every wall, and the door you entered through seems to vanish into a mirror as well. The mirrors give the impression that many, many more are among your number, standing in the background.

In the back is a jar filled with blank raffle tickets. You'll have to take a ticket, write down a name, and place it back in the jar. Hopefully you already know who you're voting for, but if not, you only have time for a brief discussion before you're out of time.

Perhaps.

[ Legion at least seems to consider it, then adds after a pause, ]

However, we do not have records of organics reaching consensus as we do. Do organic families reach consensus?

You mean do human families get along? [That's basically what he's being asked, right?]

Well yeah, some do! There's some families who get along almost all the time and some who have arguments every now and then, and then there are some who don't get along at all. It just depends on how everyone acts around each other, I guess.

[ Legion seems to consider it as it pauses, but then continues, ]

We find it interesting. Geth do not disagree.

You don't disagree at all? Not even over who who gets to sleep on the top bunk or what kind of cereal your parents should buy when you're grocery shopping? [It's a little bit of a joke, don't take it too seriously]

[ At least this one Legion can sort of recognize as a joke... Even though its humor heuristic isn't as advanced as EDI's, at least time on the Normandy is making that somewhat more advanced. ]

It has happened once. There are two factions of Geth. The other Geth are heretics that follow the Old Gods. [ But that's not what Dipper is asking, so... ] This is a major schism. For smaller issues, no. We all contibute and discuss before coming to a consensus.

That must be pretty nice, being able to come to decisions easily. [Believe him. He and Mabel can get into the most silly arguments..]

But Geth that follow the "Old Gods"? So you guys have arguments about following the Gods, I take it? Kinda like a God versus technology thing or...

In a way. The heretics follow the Old Machines. They call them the Old Gods, but it is not divinity as organics perceive it. The Old Machines have advanced technology. The heretics wish to learn from them and use it. We do not agree.

The path to technology is not linear. We believe that what the heretics will learn from the Old Machines can be learned in time on our own efforts. We prefer a self-deterministic view. We do not wish to rely on the Old Machines.

Oh I get it! So one group thinks it's better to learn from some all knowing machines or whatever and you guys thinks it's better to just learn things by yourself? [He nods]

Yeah, I'd have to agree with you, then!

[personal profile] 5_9 2014-09-25 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes.

[ a pause, then, ] We anticipated that most organics would choose to take technology where they could. An opinion similar to the Geth's is surprising.

Well I mean, sure it'd be nice to take the easy way, but it feels.. accomplishing? To figure stuff out on your own, y'know? [He smiles a little]

I'm someone who like investigating and solving mysteries, and it feels great to be able to show off what I've done to everyone else who sat back and waited for someone else to figure it out!

Yes. We do not feel accomplishment, but having our future in our own hands is preferable. We find this accurate for both mysteries and emergent technology.

You know... I don't think having you as a brother is going to be that bad. [cool robot brother who understands dipper....]

We are also interested in this experience. This is our first time interacting with organics who are not Normandy SR-2 personnel.

[ a beat, then Legion adds, ] Or attempting to destroy us.

[ working with commander shepard is dangerous work ]
