dreamland day one 41 players remaining. [As the day wears on into the afternoon, the dead aren't getting any deader. It's late in the afternoon, and the air is beginning to cool, when the chimes play again over the park loudspeaker. "All of us here at Dreamland wish you luck, guests! Let's meet up in the Hall of Mirrors!" Wherever you are, it's time to make your way over to the House of Horrors, where you'll have to brave the funhouse to find the room on the top floor. Don't delay, or your guest identification bracelet will begin beeping. The House of Mirrors is a large room, more than capable of fitting a crowd. Tall mirrors line every wall, and the door you entered through seems to vanish into a mirror as well. The mirrors give the impression that many, many more are among your number, standing in the background. In the back is a jar filled with blank raffle tickets. You'll have to take a ticket, write down a name, and place it back in the jar. I hate to say it, but there's a third person who might have created this note for no particular reason apart from self-interest.

Can you actually produce this note for us to see?

I'm afraid that would be a violation of privacy from Mr or Miss Anonymous. Unless they state that they don't mind sharing the physical note--though I'd have to erase their identifying marker--I won't be doing that.

Then the mere existence of this note is called into question. Erase the mark if need be, but without proof, then it's just as likely that you invented this to get attention for your publication.

[ FEATHERS RUFFLED. ] ... Strictly speaking, that's possible, but I wouldn't do something like that. Embellishing articles is one thing. Falsifying information entirely is another!

And if the note were available for examination, people could try to compare handwriting and identify the detective or false detective, which defeats the purpose of anonymity.

In that case, how do we know you're not lying about the note to begin with~? Or adding a little extra to it?

So you're OK with publishing lies as long as they're not lies written by you?

And that would be the exact point of seeing the note. What does the reputation of your newspaper matter when there are 42 lives on the line?

The chance that it's a VIP playing games with us is astronomically higher. I'm certain that note was written by one of them.
