dreamland day one

41 players remaining.

There are no clocks in your dorm room to help you mark the passing of time, but at a certain point, in the early hours of the morning, a cheerful chime tune plays over the loudspeaker. Whether you're awake or asleep, the door to your dorm room is now unlocked. You'll have about a forty five minutes, in which you can get ready or grab some breakfast, before the door that allows you into the park unlocks. By this time, you may or may not have noticed that one of your number is missing.

The chimes play again, to announce that the park is open, and the rides and music begin to come back to life as a voice plays over the loudspeaker.

"Looks like it's time to get started after all! To all our guests, have a magical morning! Dream big and have fun, but don't forget to look for the body! We'll see you in the afternoon at the Hall of Mirrors when it's time to vote, okay?"

You will have until 4 PM to explore the park and talk amongst yourselves. Somewhere in the park, you'll find the body of Malik Ishtar.

Maybe they have friends here. [Though that would be a bad idea, it could happen.]

That's true - there are plenty of people who seem to be very cozy already.

[Edea coughs slightly and avoids looking at the Super High School Weirdos.]

It's natural to want to protect your friends.

...But then, it would probably be under the understanding that you wouldn't be using it to commit wanton murder, either.

Right. If it was something like that, maybe they didn't know their friend as well as they thought. Or maybe this is just--how the VIPs kill people. [It's unsettling either way.]

Unless... some people think it's better to defend themselves any way they can without regard for the others here.

[Edea stamps her foot.]

A rogue bomber on top of the VIPs - that would be the worst possible situation. I can't believe so many people would buy into this ridiculous excuse of a game!

They'd be putting themselves in danger, too. They'd be more likely to kill innocent people than VIPs that way, and who knows what happens if the VIPs outnumber the rest of us. [Do they all get massacred, that would be unfortunate.]

...

That won't be happening.

[Edea sighs and falls silent for a moment.]

You know - there's always a third possibility. Neither the VIPs nor the bomber... but the people who wish us to believe them to be real and to see us turn on one another.

[Denial is definitely the key to success here.]

I wouldn't put it past our captors to set off someone's explosive the first night just to convince everyone to play with this game.

I guess there isn't a way of proving whoever kidnapped us isn't killing people. They could kill someone every night on their own if they wanted, probably. [That's depressing.] ...Even though we have to deal with this game, too, we should all still be thinking of ways to escape.

[It totally happened in Craven Castle.]

Exactly.

We have to focus on the big picture here - I refuse to play this loathsome game through to the end. Not the way they want.

I'd rather die trying to scale that fence.

Maybe we can figure out a way to get the bracelets off. [Then they wouldn't be injected with anything and nothing could be detonated! Hopefully.]

There was some discussion about chopping hands off yesterday, but.

[That's probably a poor decision.]

Actually, most of it was from Malik. Maybe he thought he'd disabled it somehow and charged the fence.

[long awkward pause]

...His hand was still attached to the rest of him, right?

What does having friends have to do with this? I would never give something so dangerous to a friend -- it doesn't make sense to me.

That doesn't mean it wouldn't make sense to someone else! They could have been trying to give their friends a way to protect themselves.

Protect themselves...by giving them a way to commit murder? How terrible. I cannot fathom how that in any way could be considered protection.

I don't know how the detonator keys work exactly, but it says you can use it whenever you want, so maybe you'd want your friend to use it when someone was trying to kill them! Or maybe you're trying to build up a group that can take out a bunch of VIPs at once.

Interesting. So you're suggesting a scenario Malik attacked someone and that person had a detonator key, using it to kill him in that moment. That could be probable...but that would make Malik one of the VIPs.

[personal profile] belgian 2014-09-23 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
We know that's not the case, with the announcement. There's always the possibility this is just how the VIPs kill--or someone did give a VIP a detonator, they tried to kill two people, and the other one was blocked by the medical team.

The person handing out detonator keys could check themselves to make sure the person still has the key, I guess, but that would be dangerous for them.

I see. So someone protected Malik, but because they used a key the medical team couldn't protect the second attack. How horrible. Someone must have truly hated Malik if that is the case.

Yes I agree. With all this in mind, the detonator should be more careful. Although the VIPs may not be hasty to kill them, if only to get more keys if one of them is trusted by the detonator.
