dreamland day one

41 players remaining.

There are no clocks in your dorm room to help you mark the passing of time, but at a certain point, in the early hours of the morning, a cheerful chime tune plays over the loudspeaker. Whether you're awake or asleep, the door to your dorm room is now unlocked. You'll have about a forty five minutes, in which you can get ready or grab some breakfast, before the door that allows you into the park unlocks. By this time, you may or may not have noticed that one of your number is missing.

The chimes play again, to announce that the park is open, and the rides and music begin to come back to life as a voice plays over the loudspeaker.

"Looks like it's time to get started after all! To all our guests, have a magical morning! Dream big and have fun, but don't forget to look for the body! We'll see you in the afternoon at the Hall of Mirrors when it's time to vote, okay?"

You will have until 4 PM to explore the park and talk amongst yourselves. Somewhere in the park, you'll find the body of Malik Ishtar.

[ She gauges it's a safe distance, but whatever someone else can touch the body to figure out if it's real or not. That's not her job. Clash tilts her head to look at the bracelet. ]

It looks like it almost cut off his circulation, but look at his veins... is that normal?

[He's also not going to touch the body, but he'll lean in for a close look.]

...I don't think so? But I don't know how these bracelets are supposed to work... [It might be part of the explosion in the end, but he shakes his head, uncertain.]

Me either... I don't think anyone does.

[ She looks at the blast wound for as long as she can before looking at the arms again. ]

If all our rooms were locked, it would have been impossible for him to get out unless he had a role. This has to be a murder, they wouldn't have us vote to execute a dead person.

I think that it is one... Mahiru pointed out that this could only be the work of the detonator if the killers tried to target someone who was protected. That's... It seems less likely, doesn't it?

[As much as he'd like to think it's an accident or someone with relatively good intentions, it does seem more likely to be VIPs looking at it like that.]

That's what I think happened too. It's the only way it makes sense.

We didn't hear it either because Anise and I checked the rooms earlier and they're 100% soundproof. As long as the majority of us were in our rooms, we wouldn't have heard it go off, which gives that person with the key the best advantage.

Ah— no, I mean... I think that it's more likely to be the VIPs. Mahiru said that since there's only one body, it means that only one group of people could have been responsible for Malik's death - either the VIPs, or the detonator and the person with a detonation key. But if the detonator was responsible... it would mean that the medical team managed to successfully protect the VIP target on the very first night. See? That's what seems unlikely.

What makes that so unlikely? They could have easily protected someone who the VIPs were going for.

Because it would have been a one in sixty-six chance for them to both pick the same person... Unless there's a really obvious target?

[HE ISN'T SURE he hadn't really been taking this whole thing as seriously as he should have been, so he has no idea if anyone painted a huge target on their backs.]

Well, there was that chick who offered to be the leader. Didn't everyone say that she was making herself susceptible to being picked off by the VIPs? It seems a little dumb to be that obvious for them to choose, but maybe that's what they were hoping. That we would think that and that the medical team wouldn't protect her.

And while everybody was thinking about that, the Detonator realized they could give the key to someone and that's how Malik ended up like... this.

I guess that's possible, too... [He purses his lips, glancing back down at Malik's body.]

...Whoever is responsible, though... We're supposed to find and execute them now?

I think we should try and talk to them first. They might have something to offer us, you never know.

Mm. I'd rather talk to them first. ...I— even if something like this happened, I don't want anyone to be executed.

[Maybe like, put into jail or something so they can't detonate anyone else??]
