![]() [You wake up in a temporary barracks set up behind an amusement park. The weather is chilly but pleasant, and there aren't any lines for the rides - in fact, it seems you have this place to yourself. The entire park appears to have been abandoned some years ago, and though everything is in working order, it is overgrown with plants and seems rusted and unsafe. As for you, something has happened, though you aren't sure what. There's a throbbing pain in your head, and you can't focus, as though you're coming off heavy pain medications. However you think you should look, you look like a human now. Under the bandages wrapped around your temple, old and smelling like blood, you'll find a recently stitched up scar wound and the inability to focus on your memories. You have no knowledge of how you came to be here; you may even have forgotten certain aspects of your life, or feel confused about them. The fact of your missing memories is obvious, a dark blank spot. Under the bandages around your wrist, you'll find a brightly colored bracelet, decorated with the face of the smiling cartoon animal on your wall, embedded into your flesh. It beeps a merry tune and welcomes you to DreamLand Fun Park. Just then, a voice comes over the loudspeaker.] "Good morning to all of our new guests! The park is now open! We'll get started later, but for now, have a magical day with your new friends! Oh, and there may be a few nasty side effects to your medical condition. If you meet someone having trouble adjusting to reality, please be polite!" [In your room, you'll find a small box containing several personal items - no weapons, magical items, or technology advanced beyond the early 21st century, and nothing dangerous, but otherwise anything you would ordinarily find on your person is there. Of course, nothing with cell reception or internet connectivity can manage to pick up a signal. If you swipe your bracelet against the steel door, it unlocks. You may now explore your accommodations, or venture out into the park.] character statuses setting This is an IC mingle covering the first day! Night roles will go up Monday at 4 PM EST, but you are welcome to continue to thread here once that happens. Make sure to follow any updates on plurk! |
Mahiru Koizumi
[Mahiru spends a disproportionate amount of time walking in and out of the shops, leaving with almost nothing. She can be seen in the candy shop for several minutes on end, looking particularly sad at the gummies.]
Don't they have a brand without any citrus flavors? [Not quite bratty or actively disappointed, the absence instead makes Mahiru almost wistful.]
B: Train (everywhere)
[She's kind of surprised that with a decent number of people in the park, almost none of them are taking the train; but, hey, if that means there's no line she won't complain. When the train is aboveground, a flash shows.]
Really wish we could get on that ferris wheel... [But barring the instances where other people nag her, Mahiru keeps her feet firmly planted on the ground as she strives to document her surroundings.]
C: Barracks + Mess Hall
[Of course Mahiru staggers out from her bedroom, bandages left on, clutching the camera hanging around her neck. She also tries to make breakfast first thing and returns for lunch after she's exhausted of pleasant street. But before making dinner in the evening, she comes back into the mess hall almost an hour before the sun sets, and sits at a table to pore over her digital camera's cache. Maybe that pencil and paper was in her personal possessions; more likely it's some pilfered souvenir stationary and pen.
She taps her pencil thoughtfully around the right side of the paper.]
But what was in the house of horrors...?
[Ah. So, it's a map. She has a pretty sparse one at first, not really having time to personally go into every single ride. Why not lend her a hand in fleshing it out?]
mess hall
[And noticing the map.]
Ah, I see. A map seems like a useful thing to have.
no subject
[She underscores the line dividing the house into two stories (sections still unlabeled at this point) and then slides the map over for him to see better.] How do you think it looks overall? It'll suck to copy this out by hand...
no subject
[Namely. Getting out his notes.]
I took the liberty of measuring the perimeter. Of course, it's only a crude estimation, but I believe we're looking at an area of about [Blah blah acreage, dimensions.]
As for copying it by hand, you don't need to do that on your own. Wouldn't it be easier for others to work on copying it at the same time?
no subject
Ooh, it would probably be delegatable. But we'd have to crowd around the original at first. I take it you didn't see a copy machine or anything, right?
C; Mess Hall
[ Hard to just keep walking past that girl after you notice that map, so I can't help but peer over her shoulder. ]
Did you draw it yourself?
no subject
[Mahiru blushes a little as she nods--]
Yeah, I did most of the drawing. Everyone else has helped a lot with the exploring, though, to make sure the details are right. Haven't actually bothered with the fence yet... do you know what sort of boundary it is, yet? If we're trying to escape that'll be important probably.
no subject
The fence? I have no idea. I tried getting close and take a better look earlier, but then my watch sudden started beeping like crazy.
[ Raising my hand, I point at the tacky bee watch. ]
Donno why it did that, but it did freak me out. It looked like an ordinary barbed wire fence, but you'd expect to see those more around a prison.
no subject
[But the man makes it sound much worse. Mahiru looks down at her own tacky elephant watch, frowning.] Mine beeped when I tried to take it off, too. That's some sorta sophisticated programming if it can react to more than one situation, isn't it? [Not exactly implausible.]

[ Natalia stops beside the girl when she sees what she's doing. ] May I sit here?
no subject
[Mahiru happily makes room for the other girl.]
Yeah, please go ahead.
no subject
Is it already complete? A map of the entire park would certainly be helpful.
no subject
I'm pretty sure there's nothing bigger than this stuff, though; and there's a fence.

[God she misses Hiyoko all the more just seeing itty bitty blonde and it's been about three hours. What a mess Mahiru is]

b; lake because why not
[Approach? Retreat? Just stand there and figure out what to do? Better make your choice quick, Koizumi, because it looks like he's just about done here. And once he turns around there's no way he's not going to notice you and say something.]
no subject
Aren't those things attached to a track? We should find, like, a control box.
no subject
[But that's beside the point for now. You'd think Kuzuryuu wouldn't be fazed by seeing one of his dead classmates walking around here considering it's already happened a few times by now. But...it's Koizumi. This is a little different. He spins around a little too fast upon being addressed, almost in danger of falling out of the boat and into the super gross lake water.]
Wh-what? [Hold on, give him a minute to fully process what's happening here. Koizumi is not dead and also speaking civilly to him. And not avoiding him. So that can only mean one thing, really.] I mean...r-right...yeah.
[Well this is incredibly awkward. But he's quickly regaining his composure because freaking out isn't going to get him any answers here. He hops out of the boat, sticking his hands in his pockets as usual once his feet are on stable ground again.]
no subject
Did you see anything that would let these boats sail off the track? [That could have come out much more bitter, castigating him for wasting time; instead, again much more civil, she just wants to know what he found out.] There might be a control panel in the waiting area. Otherwise they're probably operated from an underwater tunnel or something.

C; mess hall!
While he walked in there, he overheard Mahiru, and walked over to her.]
I think it's just a normal haunted house you'd find in any other fair. But I can't imagine it's in great shape.
no subject
[She turns around to get a good eyeful of the newcomer.]
Could you get inside the clubhouse, for that matter? Locked when I was over there.
no subject
Yeah, I tried getting in, but no dice. I'm guessing it's either extremely unsafe inside or there's some kind of secret hidden in there...
