[Once the announcements are over, there's no further response from the voice over the intercom. The afternoon wears on, demanding nothing more of you. The park will remain open until late in the evening, when the fireworks go off, but you can always go back earlier.

[Peko at least stops approaching when Missile starts barking, because OKAY THIS IS WORSE THAN RUNNING AWAY she doesn't want to get bitten. And she's pretty sure she's scaring the dog which is terrible she knew that would happen.

And then there's her classmate. Great.]

Missile sidles between them, hackles on end and ears pinned back. He doesn't have it in him to growl or anything serious like that, but if she lunges for him she'll need to go through Missile first!! This is a terrible idea but he is a brave little dog and he acts from the heart! ]

[Oh no, that's really adorable. He's super pleased and laughs to himself.]

Look! What a fierce warrior! He intends to defend me from evil! This is the technique that caused the simple Missile to be renamed Calamity's Dark Blade. I would be wary of challenging him! Now, take a few steps back.

[It's just Peko she probably isn't going to do anything so bending down.]

[If the SHSL Animal Breeder is telling her to step back from an animal, she's going to do it. A little sadly. And wow, should she be offended at being called evil?? She's not, though. Incredible...]

[ ...Well, the purple scarf guy is being calm, so being calm might be all right? Missile wuffs at the retreating menace, trying to sound a lot bigger and tougher than he very clearly is. He's still feeling very wary indeed, but he's no longer in panic mode. ]

Yes, you were wise to know you're no match for Calamity's fangs. What on earth did you intend to gain?

[Clearly still thinks Peko challenged him to a duel or something. Bending down and petting the soft and fluffy fur reassuringly. He really got spooked!]

It's... nothing important. I had just thought I may be able to touch his fluffy fur... But it is impossible.

[ They're both talking calmly. Does the purple scarf guy know something that Missile doesn't?

...Well, of course he does, there's a lot of things Missile doesn't know. But humans usually don't know at least some of the things Missile does. But... he's got to have picked up on how dangerous the other human is, right?! Even if she does feel much less dangerous with someone at his back. He's going to stand right here and watch her with great intensity and great fluffiness. ]

[ That would definitely come in handy in this situation! Missile is currently comprised of 40% fear, 60% defiance, and 200% puffy fluffy coat. ]

[What a nerd but Gundam did get accepted to Hope's Peak as the SHSL Animal Breeder so obviously he knows what he's talking about.]

Good boy, good boy, [she repeats, kind of... monotone. Almost robotically. It's really not all that soothing. At all.] Shh, it's okay. Everything's okay.

[Her face looks like it's getting a little pale. Is she trying a smile? It's hard to tell.]

[ WHAT IS SHE DOING THAT IS NOT HOW THOSE WORDS ARE SUPPOSED TO SOUND

Missile starts barking again. MAYBE HE CAN DROWN HER OUT. ]

Great Golgotha's ghost! What are you doing? Do you wish to drive him to madness? Cover your ears, Calamity!

[Shaking a fist while he strokes Missile with the other hand.]

Damn it all. It is a failure of my skill that I fear we must resort to treats, and yet...

[She knew it was impossible]

[ Aaaaaa yes you have his back purple friend you somehow got the terrifying person to stop. This guy... is really good at dealing with dangerous people! ]

[Standing up, marching over to her, reaching into his pocket, and...handing over what looks like some kind of beef jerky.]

Listen very carefully, and under no circumstances will you make sudden movements or begin chanting.

[She takes the jerky and just nods, not risking speaking. What if the secret chant is still working/failing?

Peko just stands there with the jerky in hand, completely still. Is she even breathing...

This is one of the most important battles in her life.]
