...plants? Why would any of them be plants? Do you mean like the aliens they were talking about? Are there secretly plant people here?! But everyone looks so human! Or...so robot-y!

If they're plants they just need water and sunlight and they'll be all happy and not want to kill anyone! We could stop them like that!

N...no, not that kind of plant. I mean people who work for whatever organization it is that are in charge of this damn game. Y'know like...working undercover, basically. They'd just pretend to be in the same situation as us, but really they're actually the bad guys in disguise.

[Child, have you never seen a good crime drama? You are missing out.]

Oh...that's horrible though! Who would even do something like that? That's basically cheating, isn't it? What kind of game would that be even??

[Pause.]

Not that this is much of a game to begin with.

It's not. It's complete bullshit. Which is why it's not exactly hard to believe that kind of setup is possible.

But I really think the former is more likely. It just makes more sense. And it does make it more of a "game" [There's a certain amount of disdain evident in his voice when he says that. He clearly doesn't see this as a game at all.] if plants aren't involved.

[Like she really cares. She doesn't have to swear just because other people do!!

But she looks pretty upset by this whole thing. Because really this "game" is awful and though she's trying her best to believe it's not really A Thing, it is clearly A Thing and she knows it.

She puts on a smile anyway.]

Well then we just have to help them as best as we can! Because...if all of that is true, then they just need help to get out of whatever these people have over them, right? That shouldn't be too hard with so many of us here!

Numbers've got nothing to do with it. Whoever's running this isn't stupid, they'll have come up with ways to cover as many loopholes as they can. Whoever the VIPs are, they're likely unable to reveal themselves as well. And if we don't know who they are and what sort of motive they're being given, it's damn near impossible to get them free of it.
