![]() [You wake up in a temporary barracks set up behind an amusement park. The weather is chilly but pleasant, and there aren't any lines for the rides - in fact, it seems you have this place to yourself. The entire park appears to have been abandoned some years ago, and though everything is in working order, it is overgrown with plants and seems rusted and unsafe. As for you, something has happened, though you aren't sure what. There's a throbbing pain in your head, and you can't focus, as though you're coming off heavy pain medications. However you think you should look, you look like a human now. Under the bandages wrapped around your temple, old and smelling like blood, you'll find a recently stitched up scar wound and the inability to focus on your memories. You have no knowledge of how you came to be here; you may even have forgotten certain aspects of your life, or feel confused about them. The fact of your missing memories is obvious, a dark blank spot. Under the bandages around your wrist, you'll find a brightly colored bracelet, decorated with the face of the smiling cartoon animal on your wall, embedded into your flesh. It beeps a merry tune and welcomes you to DreamLand Fun Park. Just then, a voice comes over the loudspeaker.] "Good morning to all of our new guests! The park is now open! We'll get started later, but for now, have a magical day with your new friends! Oh, and there may be a few nasty side effects to your medical condition. If you meet someone having trouble adjusting to reality, please be polite!" [In your room, you'll find a small box containing several personal items - no weapons, magical items, or technology advanced beyond the early 21st century, and nothing dangerous, but otherwise anything you would ordinarily find on your person is there. Of course, nothing with cell reception or internet connectivity can manage to pick up a signal. If you swipe your bracelet against the steel door, it unlocks. You may now explore your accommodations, or venture out into the park.] character statuses setting This is an IC mingle covering the first day! Night roles will go up Monday at 4 PM EST, but you are welcome to continue to thread here once that happens. Make sure to follow any updates on plurk! |

I didn't even think about the time it would take to pick everyone up from where they were! That brings out so many more possibilities! [Well now he's back to square one..]

...I'm gonna need a pencil and paper.
no subject
I don't have any paper though. You could use my arm or something though! Otherwise we'll have to go find some.

Usually I'd have at least a piece of paper with me, but there wasn't any in the box with my journal and vest.

...on second thought, just give me your arms. I don't want to lose my train of thought while we're looking.

[She pulls her sweater off, tying it around her waist and holding out both arms. Tank top today so you have all the way up to her shoulders to work with, Dipper.]
1/?? im breaking it up so its not like ONE HUGE ASS TAG
[He takes her hand and taps the pen to his chin for a second, before using his mouth to take the cap off and begins writing.]
Okay, so let's say we're somewhere only four hours away from us. That would only be possible if we were one of the last stops, or the last stop. We'd be traveling by plane, car, train or boat, but we can probably cross boats off of our list, because they travel like, really slow if they're not speed boats and we'd probably end up in the middle of the ocean.
[He pauses, before writing "(x) = mph" on her arm.]
If x, our variable, is equal to how many miles our mode of transportation travels, then we'd have to multiply it by how many hours we've traveled. [Writing some more. This time he's written a small list. "Car, Train, Plane." He flips her arm over and writes
"Car: (x) = 60, (x) = 70"]
I'm guessing we'd only be able to travel at the most 70 miles per hour by car.
Anyway if we were to multiply sixty by four, we'd have two-hundred and fourty. ["(x) x 4 = 240"]
That means we couldn't have traveled very far. We'd still be in Oregon, Idaho, or Nevada. ["(x) x 4 = 280"]
Even if we traveled two-hundred eighty miles, we'd still be only in Oregon, Idaho, or Nevada. [He stops for a second, placing a hand to his chin, getting ink on his cheek.]

"(x) x 4 = 320"]
If we traveled three-hundred and twenty miles, it expands how far our destination is, but not by much. It'd only add North California and most of Washington to our list. ["Plane: (x) = 600"
(x) x 4 = 2,400"]
Traveling by plane, however, could get us pretty far in such a short amount of time. We'd be able to travel to Alabama, Georgia, West Virginia, Kentucky.. most of the middle-east states. Of course there's the possibility of us getting dropped off here and staying unconscious a few hours later, but I kind of doubt it.

Now let's move onto twenty hours!
["Car, Train, Plane.
Car: (x) = 60, (x) = 70
(x) x 20 ="
He pauses again to do some math, his tongue unknowingly sticking out as he focuses. Which is unfortunate because he's doing the thing where he taps his face with the pen, only this time he ended up marking his tongue.]
i dont have any better icon so enjoy this one also im still not done

"(x) x 20 = 1,200
(x) x 20 = 1,400"]
Okay, if we drove for one-thousand two-hundred or one-thousand four-hundred miles we'd be around Kansas and Iowa... ["Train: (x) = 80
(x) x 20 = 1,600"]
Traveling by train would get us as far as Illinois or Missouri.
ok this is the last one
(x) x 20 = 12,000"]
We could go twelve-thousand miles East OR West, which lands us in two different locations. If we travel East from Oregon, we'd end up around Japan, South Korea, or south-east China. But if we travel West we'd end up around France, the United Kingdom, or Spain.
[He lets go of her hand and crosses his arms.]
There's no real way to tell which direction we did go or by what, but I think I have a pretty good idea. I mean, considering what I said earlier about the tourism and signs, I'd say we took a plane and we're now somewhere in China! [He hands the marker out to her then, satisfied with his work.]

Wow...okay. So. If we're in China, what does that mean? What can we do with this information?
[Just going to admire all this math.]

[..]
It means.....
[....]
I... don't know!

...which is a bad one.

....have you heard about any kind of amusement-park related accidents in China?

[Mabel crosses her arms, giving this a lot of thought clearly.]
What if...what if some maniac came in? What if he came in and just opened fire on the whole crowd! Just BLAM BLAM BLAM!! Killed everyone!
Or one of the rides broke down! Like one of the big rides! Or...
Or something...
