dreamland day zero

42 players remaining.

[You wake up in a temporary barracks set up behind an amusement park. The weather is chilly but pleasant, and there aren't any lines for the rides - in fact, it seems you have this place to yourself. The entire park appears to have been abandoned some years ago, and though everything is in working order, it is overgrown with plants and seems rusted and unsafe.

As for you, something has happened, though you aren't sure what. There's a throbbing pain in your head, and you can't focus, as though you're coming off heavy pain medications. However you think you should look, you look like a human now. Under the bandages wrapped around your temple, old and smelling like blood, you'll find a recently stitched up scar wound and the inability to focus on your memories. You have no knowledge of how you came to be here; you may even have forgotten certain aspects of your life, or feel confused about them. The fact of your missing memories is obvious, a dark blank spot. Under the bandages around your wrist, you'll find a brightly colored bracelet, decorated with the face of the smiling cartoon animal on your wall, embedded into your flesh. It beeps a merry tune and welcomes you to DreamLand Fun Park. Just then, a voice comes over the loudspeaker.]

"Good morning to all of our new guests! The park is now open! We'll get started later, but for now, have a magical day with your new friends! Oh, and there may be a few nasty side effects to your medical condition. If you meet someone having trouble adjusting to reality, please be polite!"

[In your room, you'll find a small box containing several personal items - no weapons, magical items, or technology advanced beyond the early 21st century, and nothing dangerous, but otherwise anything you would ordinarily find on your person is there. Of course, nothing with cell reception or internet connectivity can manage to pick up a signal.

If you swipe your bracelet against the steel door, it unlocks. You may now explore your accommodations, or venture out into the park.]

[K sighs silently, afraid that this might have happened from past experience. From one death trap to the next.]

It's as I feared then. Yet another game of death and betrayal. How unfortunate.

[He picks his head up and tries to address the people around him.]

Everyone, please remain calm. We will do ourselves no good by panicking. All we must do is work together to find these VIPs and stop them. Or, better yet, the VIPs should reveal themselves now and pledge not to kill anyone. No one need die here if we cooperate with one another.

[ Of all things, it's "another" in this sudden speech that catches his attention, more curious than accusative: ] Another?

[ Okay, maybe a little accusatory. ]
jingler: sprite (as i was split in half)

[personal profile] jingler 2014-09-22 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, another. At least for me. This is the second time I've been involved in a situation such as this. They even share something in common, with grouping a number of people into pairs and the others alone as solos.

[But he doesn't think this is one of Zero's games. It doesn't seem to fit given the parameters of the Nonary Game he was just in.]
bacchic: (i may just take your breath away)

[personal profile] bacchic 2014-09-23 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
[ That's a pretty knowledgeable answer; he had expected something evasive. ]

But you survived. [ That's a start. ] Did many die, the first time? [ Did you kill anyone? is the obvious question underlying what he actually asks. ]
jingler: sprite (oh what's the use?)

[personal profile] jingler 2014-09-23 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
It isn't so much that I survived, as I was taken mid-game. As for what happened...unfortunately four people died and one went missing out of a group of 9 with myself included. No one knows who caused their deaths however.

Yeah, what he said! I second whatever he just said! We all just need to agree that killing each other is really dumb and no one will die!

[ Foolproof plan in Maya's opinion. ]
jingler: sprite (oh what's the use?)

[personal profile] jingler 2014-09-22 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. Killing is illegal, immoral and dumb.

...Although unfortunately, not everyone will share our views.
mediumburgers: (= FIGHT ME)

[personal profile] mediumburgers 2014-09-23 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Super illegal! And anyone who does it will go to jail, I'm sure of it! I'll make sure Nick doesn't represent them in court so they have to find a lamer defense lawyer and maybe I can have him call Mr Edgeworth to be prosecutor since he's the best! And then they'll definitely go to jail forever! [ A fun thing to imagine. ]

And yeah, it's immoral and dumb. How can anyone disagree with that?

[personal profile] eventhandler 2014-09-22 12:07 pm (UTC)(link)
You have been in a...game before?

[If possible, Royce's stare gets even more intense. So, wait, there was another game like this one? That is not a good sign. Not at all. But then again, this individual seems to have survived, so...maybe it all wouldn't turn out do bad.]

I think...I think that what you're saying is easier said than done. If these VIPS do exist...what is stopping them from lying that they won't kill, and then killing later?
jingler: sprite (as i was split in half)

[personal profile] jingler 2014-09-22 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
If the VIPs do kill, we will have no choice but to retaliate. There is no need for any bloodshed so long as no one feels the need to kill at all.

As for your first question -- before coming here I was in the middle of another similar game. Different from time one in a number of ways, but similar too. I was worried when I awoke here that this may be yet another game of murder, but I did not want to believe it. Until now.
eventhandler: (i said oh my god)

[personal profile] eventhandler 2014-09-23 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
That's understandable.

[About the whole "do not kill and you will not be killed" thing, that is.]

The middle? So wait, someone...kidnapped you from your kidnapper?

[Kidnapper rivalry????]
jingler: sprite (as i was split in half)

[personal profile] jingler 2014-09-23 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. Silly isn't it? I would have been more thankful for the rescue, had this sudden introduction of a killing game never come to be. Out of the pot, into the oven, I believe is the appropriate saying.
eventhandler: (on the cold shoulder of consequence)

[personal profile] eventhandler 2014-09-23 12:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't it "out of the frying pan, into the fire"...?

[Eh, whatever. Still, this is interesting, and yet also sort of...disturbing.]

Are you, um, in the same boat as that man? Sigma, I think his name was. He mentioned something about being kidnapped, as well...
jingler: sprite (far away from the milky teat)

[personal profile] jingler 2014-09-24 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh, is that it? Hm.]

Yes. Sigma and I came from the same place before we arrived here. Although he cannot remember it.

[SHE WAS ACTUALLY GETTING PISSED, but this stops her short]

What do you mean, "another"?
jingler: sprite (oh what's the use?)

[personal profile] jingler 2014-09-22 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Before I came here I was in the middle of being trapped in a similar killing game. This suit I'm wearing was even built with that game in mind, you see.

[He extends out his left hand, which is where his bracelet is embedded into the arm.]

Before I came here this bracelet was programmed to respond to the game I was in. Whoever took us reprogrammed it to function as the guest bracelet for this game.
siggey: (who wants to talk about the chinese room)

[personal profile] siggey 2014-09-23 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
...Let me guess. The one I'm apparently supposed to be involved in, too?

[ My hand was on my face again before I even realized it.

...Well, it can stay there for a few seconds longer. ]
jingler: sprite (as i was split in half)

[personal profile] jingler 2014-09-23 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
Correct. A shame you don't remember it. It would have given you ample experience with the situation at hand.
siggey: (but who was zero?!)

[personal profile] siggey 2014-09-23 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
I don't want to remember a double-kidnapping! ...I mean, I don't want that to actually HAPPEN, either!

[ This place is awful for my blood pressure. And I'm a fit guy! ]

You just said 'trapped in a warehouse', and something about a rabbit. What else could be so similar to a sick game that's making us kill each other?
jingler: ova (steam engenius enough)

[personal profile] jingler 2014-09-23 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
[He holds out his left arm, which is equipped with a circular screen that shows his guest bracelet.]

I mentioned before that this suit was put on me before I awoke in the warehouse, yes? Well the game in the warehouse made everyone wear a bracelet, which could also kill us if a certain set of conditions were met. In addition, everyone was grouped as 'pairs' and 'solos' which rotated over time. Those two factors are alone similar to this game we are in now.
siggey: can you believe he's gonna be a genius (hnng)

[personal profile] siggey 2014-09-23 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
So everyone had bracelets too, huh. Were they as tacky as these, though...

Pairs and solos? You mean, like this 'buddy' system?

jingler: sprite (as i was split in half)

[personal profile] jingler 2014-09-23 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. The people who were buddies even shared 'a fate' whenever they were linked together, much like the buddies in this game do. Although this game seems much more complex than Zero's.
