42 players remaining.

[You wake up in a temporary barracks set up behind an amusement park. The weather is chilly but pleasant, and there aren't any lines for the rides - in fact, it seems you have this place to yourself. The entire park appears to have been abandoned some years ago, and though everything is in working order, it is overgrown with plants and seems rusted and unsafe.

As for you, something has happened, though you aren't sure what. There's a throbbing pain in your head, and you can't focus, as though you're coming off heavy pain medications. However you think you should look, you look like a human now. Under the bandages wrapped around your temple, old and smelling like blood, you'll find a recently stitched up scar wound and the inability to focus on your memories. You have no knowledge of how you came to be here; you may even have forgotten certain aspects of your life, or feel confused about them. The fact of your missing memories is obvious, a dark blank spot. Under the bandages around your wrist, you'll find a brightly colored bracelet, decorated with the face of the smiling cartoon animal on your wall, embedded into your flesh. It beeps a merry tune and welcomes you to DreamLand Fun Park. Just then, a voice comes over the loudspeaker.]

"Good morning to all of our new guests! The park is now open! We'll get started later, but for now, have a magical day with your new friends! Oh, and there may be a few nasty side effects to your medical condition. If you meet someone having trouble adjusting to reality, please be polite!"

[In your room, you'll find a small box containing several personal items - no weapons, magical items, or technology advanced beyond the early 21st century, and nothing dangerous, but otherwise anything you would ordinarily find on your person is there. Of course, nothing with cell reception or internet connectivity can manage to pick up a signal.

If you swipe your bracelet against the steel door, it unlocks. You may now explore your accommodations, or venture out into the park.]

[The roller coaster looks so dangerous. Peko does meander in that general direction, her nose wrinkling briefly at the sight of it. Really, how is someone supposed to have fun on that?! Nope. Nope nope nope. Even normal roller coasters aren't exactly the best thing, but this?? NOPE.]

What it is called...? [she repeats, focusing her attention on the stranger and crossing her arms over her chest. Her brows furrow in a touch of confusion.]

A roller coaster.

[And that answers his question. As far as she's concerned, that's all she has to say in response.

So she just moves in closer, trying to see if there are any attendants here. Which. There obviously aren't.]

[Unfortunately, Oz is not so easy to shake... As she goes to observe the tracks closer, he'll follow along like a nerd.]

What is it for? Some sort of transportation, or is it another ride like those teacups? It looks a little like a train...

[A dangerous rickety train that is almost entirely certain to send someone spiraling off to their bloody demise, he's sure... r.i.p anyone who tries riding this.

Which may just be Oz, because he doesn't have a Danger Sense like most people.]

[No, Oz, no. Withdraw while you can.]

It is a ride. Some people find them fun.

[She gives it another appraising glance before shaking her head again.]

This one looks more dangerous than most. It would be unwise to ride it.

[Peko 'no fun brigade' Pekoyama.]

Have you never been to an amusement park?
harepiece: (but idiots can't catch colds!)

["SOME PEOPLE FIND THEM FUN" says Peko while clearly leaving herself out of that category. Wow...]

I guess... [In response to her basically saying in Polite Peko Terms that riding it is a dumb, dumb idea and that he'd probably die the death if he tried.]

Um— I haven't! I haven't heard of them until I woke up here, actually.
perfectstrike: (shock)

[personal profile] perfectstrike 2014-09-22 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
You haven't heard of them?

[She actually does look surprised at that! Even she, Peko Pekoyama, has been to an amusement park!]

Where are you from?
harepiece: (bluebirds)

[personal profile] harepiece 2014-09-22 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[THIS AGAIN. Someone's already asked him if he comes from a different country because he's never heard of movies before!! Life is hard when you're Ye Olde.]

Ah— Well... I'm from Reveille. I don't think that many people here have heard of it, though.

[personal profile] perfectstrike 2014-09-22 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I have not. Is it European?

[It definitely doesn't sound like anything in Japan! Maybe he's from a little weird country like her own Super High School Level Princess. Who knows.]

What is your name?
harepiece: (you heathens)

[personal profile] harepiece 2014-09-22 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[That earns her a baffled look and he shakes his head.]

I haven't heard of that before. [oh AU realities, you're so great.]

—But my name is Oz! It's nice to meet you, miss...?
perfectstrike: (shock)

[personal profile] perfectstrike 2014-09-22 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Pekoyama.

[Staring intensifies.]

You haven't heard of Europe, either?
harepiece: (oh.....)

[personal profile] harepiece 2014-09-23 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't... Is that a country?

[HE FEELS PREEMPTIVELY JUDGED.]
perfectstrike: (500% done)

[personal profile] perfectstrike 2014-09-24 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
A continent, actually.

[STILL FROWNING.]

Perhaps you know it by another name, in your language.

[Though the bracelets are translating everything so??? She's confused.]

[which Oz will helpfully point out!!]

I think that we can all understand each other right now, though, so we would be talking about the same thing even if we used different words, right?
