The weather is chilly but pleasant, and there aren't any lines for the rides - in fact, it seems you have this place to yourself. The entire park appears to have been abandoned some years ago, and though everything is in working order, it is overgrown with plants and seems rusted and unsafe. As for you, something has happened, though you aren't sure what. There's a throbbing pain in your head, and you can't focus, as though you're coming off heavy pain medications. However you think you should look, you look like a human now. Under the bandages wrapped around your temple, old and smelling like blood, you'll find a recently stitched up scar wound and the inability to focus on your memories. You have no knowledge of how you came to be here; you may even have forgotten certain aspects of your life, or feel confused about them. The fact of your missing memories is obvious, a dark blank spot. Under the bandages around your wrist, you'll find a brightly colored bracelet, decorated with the face of the smiling cartoon animal on your wall, embedded into your flesh. It beeps a merry tune and welcomes you to DreamLand Fun Park. Just then, a voice comes over the loudspeaker.] "Good morning to all of our new guests! The park is now open! We'll get started later, but for now, have a magical day with your new friends! Oh, and there may be a few nasty side effects to your medical condition. If you meet someone having trouble adjusting to reality, please be polite!" [In your room, you'll find a small box containing several personal items - no weapons, magical items, or technology advanced beyond the early 21st century, and nothing dangerous, but otherwise anything you would ordinarily find on your person is there. Of course, nothing with cell reception or internet connectivity can manage to pick up a signal. If you swipe your bracelet against the steel door, it unlocks. [ He would be more suspicious if she didn't seem to be in the same predicament as him, right down to the strange bracelet. ]

It looks decrepit. [ But so does everything else. ] Do you think we're meant to ride on them?

It looks like we might fall through the bottom if we climbed on. [There's no way these rides are up to code.] I don't think we should! It'd be bad if someone got hurt.

[billows]

Aren't we already hurt? [ Opening up his palms, just look at how pathetic he seems. ] We have a medical condition.

[Aw, poor guy.] They did something--[her hand shoots up to feel the scar on her temple]--so we shouldn't make things worse on ourselves before we can get out of here.

[billows]

[ He seems to have forgotten the carousel entirely at this point, even though the weird music is still playing. ] Maybe there's supposed to be a cure? Or therapy of some sort. I wouldn't sign up for this.

Hey, don't let them scare you, okay? We all got kidnapped and they're trying to freak us out, that's all.

[billows]

[ It's working. ] Kidnapped? No, the police would be here by now. Don't you think? Well, my family would have paid the ransom long ago.

I think it was a pretty large-scale operation. [Maybe literally, if all the head wounds are something to go by.] I know I didn't have any medical conditions before I got here, so this is all just some weird set-up. Have you eaten yet?

[Food calms people down, probably.]

[billows]

I could use a drink. [ Which means no but he isn't particularly concerned about that. ]

You shouldn't drink without food in you! [Everyone knows that!] Come on, I know where we can get something to eat.

[ He has never heard that in his life?? ] Well—what kind? [ But he'll follow her anyway. ] Greasy foods upset my stomach. I try to stay away from amusement parks.

There's a cafeteria where we can cook something decent. [Decent, but not super great. She leads the way!] Do you know how to cook?

[ He is just glad to have someone tell him where to go. ] Oh, yes. But I need preparation, you know, a few ingredients from the grocery store, and my aunt's cookbooks. Also, a good selection of wine. [ As they get to the cafeteria, he sniffs. ] Which I presume isn't on hand.
