dreamland day three

34 players remaining.

[As the day wears on into the afternoon, the dead aren't getting any deader. It's late in the afternoon, and the air is beginning to cool, when the chimes play again over the park loudspeaker.
"All of us here at Dreamland wish you luck, guests! Let's meet up in the Hall of Mirrors!"

Wherever you are, it's time to make your way over to the House of Horrors, where you'll have to brave the funhouse to find the room on the top floor. Don't delay, or your guest identification bracelet will begin beeping. The House of Mirrors is a large room, more than capable of fitting a crowd. Tall mirrors line every wall, and the door you entered through seems to vanish into a mirror as well. The mirrors give the impression that many, many more are among your number, standing in the background.

In the back is a jar filled with blank raffle tickets. You'll have to take a ticket, write down a name, and place it back in the jar. Hopefully you already know who you're voting for, but if not, you only have time for a brief discussion before you're out of time.

If the rules of the game are fair and sound, everyone has an equal chance of conversion with the exception of whoever is protected from conversion. If not everyone has an equal chance, then this is no longer a game but a march to death. Of course we cannot tell how the VIPs are operating, but it is reasonable to assume at the end of that first night that everyone had a chance to be converted.

...However I do realize I made a flaw in my reasoning. The VIPs can obviously not be converted, bringing the odds down to 1 in 34.

But I don't understand why you think Missile is such a good target. Is it because he is a dog and no one would want to kill an animal?

...

Are you being deliberately obtuse, K? She means we must take into account the preferences of the killers. Who they might choose to convert.

I understand that Kyouya, but we don't know that for certain. As only the VIPs would know that, we can only speculate on who they would pick and it could very well be anyone. Therefore everyone eligible for conversion has an equal chance down the board. From a dog like Missile, to a child like Mabel, to an adult like Royce.

That may be true on our end, but it isn't true when your argument would be that choosing the detective was an incredible stroke of luck.

It was, but perhaps the very same qualities that caused someone to make a dog detective in the first place were also involved in the selection of the conversion. It's hardly impossible.

Hm. An interesting view to take and the VIPs would certainly take into account certain qualities when deciding who to convert. I will agree it is possible, barring the possibility that the Conversion Busters protected Missile.

In the end it is Edea's word against Missile's...ah, bark I suppose.

Hm, yes. Though I must admit...I personally believe Edea likely to be a VIP. Her argument has some merit, but on the whole...I think I won't have a choice but to vote for her.

On the other hand...I am persuaded there is cause for concern related to the way things went yesterday with Missile. There are a few individuals whose behavior seems to have been somewhat alarmingly counterproductive. With the debate focused on Edea versus Legion, I see no need to get into it, but...I hope you take my meaning. The sources of ambiguity should tread carefully.

...I think this is still an inaccurate statement.

They didn't flip a coin to decide their conversion - they considered pros and cons, which changes this from a matter of probability into a more complex puzzle. You can only say 'everyone had an equal chance' if all of us were completely identical in every way. The fact is, there are too many variables to assign probabilities to anything.

And yes, I believe Missile was a good conversion choice because he would be considered above suspicion.

[a slight pause]

Also, er, it looks like Malik was killed because he threatened to cut off Missile's paw, so.... there was some... bias already shown.

True, the VIPs would look at certain qualities in their decision. Perhaps Missile had a quality they sought and they picked him. Maybe they like dogs then, taking Malik into consideration.

That would be... suggested, yes. Malik's immediate death and the recruitment of an animal.
