day three - afternoon

dreamland day three

34 players remaining.

[As the day wears on into the afternoon, the dead aren't getting any deader. It's late in the afternoon, and the air is beginning to cool, when the chimes play again over the park loudspeaker.
"All of us here at Dreamland wish you luck, guests! Let's meet up in the Hall of Mirrors!"

Wherever you are, it's time to make your way over to the House of Horrors, where you'll have to brave the funhouse to find the room on the top floor. Don't delay, or your guest identification bracelet will begin beeping. The House of Mirrors is a large room, more than capable of fitting a crowd. Tall mirrors line every wall, and the door you entered through seems to vanish into a mirror as well. The mirrors give the impression that many, many more are among your number, standing in the background.

In the back is a jar filled with blank raffle tickets. You'll have to take a ticket, write down a name, and place it back in the jar. Hopefully you already know who you're voting for, but if not, you only have time for a brief discussion before you're out of time.

Oh.

That's an unexpectedly cogent theory. Though it does put a lot of emphasis on the capacity of a dog to be a rational actor.

Yes... This is why I believe it's important to consider how a dog would act in the absence of instructions.

Whether or not it's likely that Missile would be rational enough to refrain from immediately accosting Levi, it's a fact that he did. However, it's his actions afterwards that appear to be decidedly... un-animalistic. He was clearly not afraid of Levi - everyone saw how enthusiastically he spoke against him. So why the 'clues' with the pictures and why the wait? Only when you consider the end result does it make sense.

The clues, it seems likely, were planted by someone else. Missile wouldn't have been capable of that much training. Consider, too, that K and Aya did not see who it was who passed notes under the door... but immediately came to the conclusion during the trial that it was Missile. And that must be the explanation for the clues - so as to fool them into thinking they had drawn their own conclusions.

I admit it's all possible. I had been concerned about the possibility of Missile being used. It seems too unfortunate, that Missile had a guilty result yesterday, and yet that fact wasn't mentioned and we were instead led to execute Levi. Had we known you were guilty, I would have preferred to vote for you. Though I hadn't thought to suspect the dog was the one behind the delay...

One thing does confuse me about your theory. You're suggesting they're executing you to draw attention from Legion, correct? But wouldn't it be better to save their trump card? Or are they too sentimental to sacrifice Legion?

The loss of any single VIP would be detrimental to them - they need to outnumber us, remember. There's also the possibility that they could lose two in one go if Legion were paired. Still then, when my execution is another error, I believe public opinion would still be on Missile's side. He would be wrong - he is a dog, he has made a mistake. His opinion may not be trusted again, but would anyone seriously consider the possibility of conversion?

But yes, it would be the action of a group willing to take chances - the possibility of protecting Legion one more day as opposed to whatever might come up in the future. Is there any other time when they would absolutely need someone to be executed? I would say possibly not. The Medical Team is busy protecting Missile, one of their own, and the Buddy Cops can be easily killed in the night at any time if discovered.

...I see.

There's something to it. I've been very troubled by this, but...your proposal is we execute Legion?

It's certainly too much to choose Missile if he really is on our side, still. Yes, it would be Legion.

[Her expression is very pained as she says this...]

Let's say we execute Legion, and he is innocent. What would be your argument then?

Do you believe me so unscrupulous?

I would request that I be executed tomorrow, for I would have sent an innocent unjustly to his death.
glasshole: (thoughtful | all things considered)

[personal profile] glasshole 2014-10-01 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
So if you're wrong about Legion, then you would give up? Even knowing that your death would mean three nights in a row of executing an innocent?

Is that giving up? Would you wish for me to levy more accusations...? At the very least... it would prevent the VIPs from converting.

[But she'll consider his suggestion.]

If Legion is indeed innocent, then the reason the VIPs needed Levi dead yesterday is less obvious. However, it would have still established Missile as the true Detective, nonetheless, and would still be a worthwhile action to take.

If that is the case and if I were not concerned for my honor, I would necessarily accuse Gundam Tanaka as the circumstantial evidence would point in his direction.

I see. Yes, that's a decent argument.

Very well, then.
