42 players remaining.

[You wake up in a temporary barracks set up behind an amusement park. The weather is chilly but pleasant, and there aren't any lines for the rides - in fact, it seems you have this place to yourself. The entire park appears to have been abandoned some years ago, and though everything is in working order, it is overgrown with plants and seems rusted and unsafe.

As for you, something has happened, though you aren't sure what. There's a throbbing pain in your head, and you can't focus, as though you're coming off heavy pain medications. However you think you should look, you look like a human now. Under the bandages wrapped around your temple, old and smelling like blood, you'll find a recently stitched up scar wound and the inability to focus on your memories. You have no knowledge of how you came to be here; you may even have forgotten certain aspects of your life, or feel confused about them. The fact of your missing memories is obvious, a dark blank spot. Under the bandages around your wrist, you'll find a brightly colored bracelet, decorated with the face of the smiling cartoon animal on your wall, embedded into your flesh. It beeps a merry tune and welcomes you to DreamLand Fun Park. Just then, a voice comes over the loudspeaker.]

"Good morning to all of our new guests! The park is now open! We'll get started later, but for now, have a magical day with your new friends! Oh, and there may be a few nasty side effects to your medical condition. If you meet someone having trouble adjusting to reality, please be polite!"

[In your room, you'll find a small box containing several personal items - no weapons, magical items, or technology advanced beyond the early 21st century, and nothing dangerous, but otherwise anything you would ordinarily find on your person is there. Of course, nothing with cell reception or internet connectivity can manage to pick up a signal.

If you swipe your bracelet against the steel door, it unlocks. You may now explore your accommodations, or venture out into the park.]

Well after you, Dipper! Though for the record, if we can't find any my arms are still here.
bacchic: (i may just take your breath away)

[ Fair enough.

He focuses on just where he hit Francis once he moves closer, finally looking a little guilty. ]
You scared me. [ But he seems to relax a little; solidarity in fear, confusion, etc. ] I didn't mean to, obviously. I'm sorry for that.
jingler: sprite (oh what's the use?)

It isn't so much that I survived, as I was taken mid-game. As for what happened...unfortunately four people died and one went missing out of a group of 9 with myself included. No one knows who caused their deaths however.
jingler: sprite (human nature was what started me)

Hehehe. I suppose there are some things that stick with you even in the wake of memory loss. Interesting.

What about food and water? We'll need to eat at some point.

[ Somehow she gets the feeling this isn't going to be a five star experience... ]

Fine. [ And it is fine, all of the energy he could put into holding a grudge focused on more important matters. ] Is that all there is? [ Now he's just frowning at the instant coffee, no real conviction in it. ]

Where did you wake up, anyway? I saw a snake, I think. Did you?
bacchic: (are there things that water can't wash)

[personal profile] bacchic 2014-09-23 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
[ He looks annoyed for a moment but it passes. Turning to glance at the coffee, he shrugs, suddenly weary. ] There's more coffee, I think, but nothing stronger.

No, an elephant. [ A pause. ] You know, it almost looked like you. Only rounder. [ Ha, ha. Ha. But he looks closer to crying than laughing; it's not a joke made with very much effort. ]
siggey: whelp (this is so not radical)

--Oh, yeah! Wait, so that made you remember, just now?

[He thinks for a second, before holding out his hand.]

...on second thought, just give me your arms. I don't want to lose my train of thought while we're looking.

Yes! Mabelpad is go!

[She pulls her sweater off, tying it around her waist and holding out both arms. Tank top today so you have all the way up to her shoulders to work with, Dipper.]

[ He doesn't need to see the elephant to look completely unimpressed. Really, he gets the feeling he should be a lot angrier, but he can't imagine Charles is faring any better than him. Taking the ice off his cheek, he glances out to the cafeteria. ] You're hilarious. Look, let's go sit down. I have a pack of cigarettes. [ Trying to entice, he walks off to sit at one of the benches. ]
glasshole: (pleasant | i got some great data)

[personal profile] glasshole 2014-09-23 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
Gladly. Let us do our best to work with one another.

I can only imagine to be the case, but nothing along these lines? I only ask because I think that's another consistency - no particular connection to anything like whatever organization is responsible.
glasshole: (curious | can we market this?)

[personal profile] glasshole 2014-09-23 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
[No, even he won't do that.]

No. Come back down. Carefully, but as quickly as you can.
glasshole: (skeptical | i won't be participating)

Not if it's a matter of inconvenience.

[He's over this joke even if you're not joking. Probably. Look, he doesn't want to talk to the person who thinks he's a robot, but he can't be rude.]

If it's not a rude question, how does someone like you find yourselves here?
terci: (✩6; sᴇᴇᴘ ɪɴᴛᴏ ᴍʏ ᴅʀᴇᴀᴍs)

1/?? im breaking it up so its not like ONE HUGE ASS TAG

[personal profile] terci 2014-09-23 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
[HECK YES mabel, you are the best partner a mystery hunter/detective/paranormal investigator could ever ask for.]

[He takes her hand and taps the pen to his chin for a second, before using his mouth to take the cap off and begins writing.]

Okay, so let's say we're somewhere only four hours away from us. That would only be possible if we were one of the last stops, or the last stop. We'd be traveling by plane, car, train or boat, but we can probably cross boats off of our list, because they travel like, really slow if they're not speed boats and we'd probably end up in the middle of the ocean.

[He pauses, before writing "(x) = mph" on her arm.]

If x, our variable, is equal to how many miles our mode of transportation travels, then we'd have to multiply it by how many hours we've traveled. [Writing some more. This time he's written a small list. "Car, Train, Plane." He flips her arm over and writes

"Car: (x) = 60, (x) = 70"]

I'm guessing we'd only be able to travel at the most 70 miles per hour by car.

Anyway if we were to multiply sixty by four, we'd have two-hundred and fourty. ["(x) x 4 = 240"]

That means we couldn't have traveled very far. We'd still be in Oregon, Idaho, or Nevada. ["(x) x 4 = 280"]

Even if we traveled two-hundred eighty miles, we'd still be only in Oregon, Idaho, or Nevada. [He stops for a second, placing a hand to his chin, getting ink on his cheek.]

[personal profile] terci 2014-09-23 08:00 am (UTC)(link)
["Train: (x) = 80"

"(x) x 4 = 320"]

If we traveled three-hundred and twenty miles, it expands how far our destination is, but not by much. It'd only add North California and most of Washington to our list. ["Plane: (x) = 600"

(x) x 4 = 2,400"]

Traveling by plane, however, could get us pretty far in such a short amount of time. We'd be able to travel to Alabama, Georgia, West Virginia, Kentucky.. most of the middle-east states. Of course there's the possibility of us getting dropped off here and staying unconscious a few hours later, but I kind of doubt it.

[He lets go of her hand and switches his writing hand, before taking her opposite hand and starting to write.]

Now let's move onto twenty hours!

["Car, Train, Plane.

Car: (x) = 60, (x) = 70

(x) x 20 ="

He pauses again to do some math, his tongue unknowingly sticking out as he focuses. Which is unfortunate because he's doing the thing where he taps his face with the pen, only this time he ended up marking his tongue.]
terci: (✩77; sʟᴏᴡʟʏ ᴄᴏᴍᴇ ᴜɴᴅᴏɴᴇ)

i dont have any better icon so enjoy this one also im still not done

[personal profile] terci 2014-09-23 08:14 am (UTC)(link)
[After wiping his tongue on his arm to get the taste out, he begins writing again.

"(x) x 20 = 1,200

(x) x 20 = 1,400"]

Okay, if we drove for one-thousand two-hundred or one-thousand four-hundred miles we'd be around Kansas and Iowa... ["Train: (x) = 80

(x) x 20 = 1,600"]

Traveling by train would get us as far as Illinois or Missouri.
terci: (✩78; Yᴏᴜ·ʟʟ ᴄᴏᴍᴇ ᴜɴᴅᴏɴᴇ)

ok this is the last one

[personal profile] terci 2014-09-23 08:26 am (UTC)(link)
Now this is where it gets tricky. ["Plane: (x) = 600

(x) x 20 = 12,000"]

We could go twelve-thousand miles East OR West, which lands us in two different locations. If we travel East from Oregon, we'd end up around Japan, South Korea, or south-east China. But if we travel West we'd end up around France, the United Kingdom, or Spain.

[He lets go of her hand and crosses his arms.]

There's no real way to tell which direction we did go or by what, but I think I have a pretty good idea. I mean, considering what I said earlier about the tourism and signs, I'd say we took a plane and we're now somewhere in China! [He hands the marker out to her then, satisfied with his work.]

[She takes it back, slipping it into the waistband of her skirt.]

Wow...okay. So. If we're in China, what does that mean? What can we do with this information?

[Just going to admire all this math.]

Figuring out what country we're in helps us realize just what kind of situation we're in! [A small pause]

...okay but...what else can we learn from it...surely there's something more! Or where else can we start?
