Let's return to the beginning.

Scenario 1: What I proposed originally. Missile heard Levi's claims, was aware of them, and chose to investigate. He found Levi was innocent, and yet persisted in a course of action that led to Levi's death. His actions would be most questionable in this case.

Scenario 2: Missile did not understand Levi's claims as you suggest. The next day, you informed him, as you say, at breakfast, when we were all locked in together. Rather than immediately taking action, he chooses instead to bring the pictures to two individuals and waits until the end of the trial to speak. I admit it could be as you say - however, a dog is not a patient creature. I should think that the moment it was realized that the two individuals had failed to speak, he would choose to protest. But there was a palpable delay... It cannot be denied that Levi did not have an ample chance to speak on his behalf, not as I did today.
