Tell me, then, what you would do. Describe to me a strategy with any respectable chance of preserving more than twenty lives. Explain to me how you would heroically uncover every VIP and protect every Guest.

One death in two will carry with it the death of an unannounced partner. Whoever wins, open war between the Guests and the VIPs will invariably end in most of us dying. If the VIPs had been forced against their will to kill, then they could have used their conversions to save their partners, and ended this with a minimum of bloodshed.

Everything I do, I do with the hope of this ending with the greatest number of survivors. So yes, I would have preferred to make sacrifices for total certainty than gamble with people's lives.
